Not sure about Texas but here in central florida the LPN that was working at Davita I just left has been there 18 years and is making $17.00/hr (doesnt seem like much after 18 years in the same clinic). I know our PCT's started out at $10.00/hr and RN's started out at $22.00/hr. Happy to say I am officially a non-Davita Nurse as of last week:w00t:

Hey Lacie
Congrats on leaving DaVita!!!
There is life after Hell!!
I am also a very EX Davita slave, never looked back. Best decision of my life.
Glad you were able to make it to the other side.

DaVita isn't the source of the problem. We were hospital based up until they bought us out 1 1/2 years ago. There is good with the bad. I would advise that you research the facility that you are considering along with the Facility Administrator. A good facility administrator is an absolute must when you are just a small piece of a huge corporate entity. This is not a knock on DaVita, just a common thread in big business.
I am an extremely particular person. I've had numerous jobs along two extremely different career paths. As an RN, I'm currently fairly content working for DaVita in a Northern Lights unit. I also realize that this has a lot to do with my administrator.
Bottom line: Don't skip the chance at a position just because some folks have had bad experiences with DaVita. There are those of us who have done well by DaVita.
No, Davita is the bottom of the barrel. Crap pay, no help, no supplies and a CEO who rakes in billions. It was more pleasant working for HCA when they were under indictment (and had JACHO at the same time)

I disagree. I work for Davita and have done for the past two years. I am extremely happy with them. We have enough help, great docs, tons of supplies, good pay, a nice facility and the best coworkers I could ever wish for. The problem is not Davita but the individuals whom you work with. I'm getting a tidy retention bonus soon too....$3000 lump sum. Thanks Davita!

Hello Lacie,
I am a new member of allnurses.com.. I am currently with DaVita but eagerly active in finding a new direction... My experience here is like no other.. I live in GA different from where I am originally from back west...but the professional morale, and " respect " for one another is devastatingly lacking in this company... Is it just me or is the company more geared towards numbers and budget... ITS SICKENING>>> I am not a sales associate... :-):nuke:
I guess it depends on your state regulation for staffing also as I have visited all 5 clinics in my area and they all run pretty much the same and all have different FA's. We were limited to 4:1 ration and it sucks! Charge nurse took pts and being the only licensed in the building was no hay ride. I drive an hour to go to another employer not associated with Davita now. I have been there 6 weeks now and am astounded at the differences. I have yet to see the charge take pts, have less than 3 nurses and 2 techs on floor. Yes we have 4 more chairs but even when census drops the staffing doesnt get cut. I feel respected and the nurses actually make the decisions not the PCT's. Also that 3 grand retention bonus - I get 50% match on 401K that I didnt get at Davita and in the long term it will pan out much more money than that 3 grand. I was careful to have my accountant look at numbers and he literally laughed at what Davita had to offer to help look towards retirement. My insurance is the same exact company and plan for 1/2 of what I paid out of my check at Davita. They also pay me mileage if I have to go between a clinic to help. They also dont stand for the pt's abusing the staff like I put up with the 11 months I was with Davita. I have been a nurse a long long time and it was the worse company I have ever encountered. Budget meant much more than pt care or the health and happiness of it's nurses. Did I mention I make $10,000 more a year than Davita also and that's just the starting pay. I was also shocked to see I currently have pts' that drive that hour to where I am now just to avoid Davita clinics. To me that says much more when I hear it from the pt's themselves when they have 5 clinics closer to them and still refuse to utilize. Oh and I dont have to use all my PTO first if I get sick lol. I get to use "sick time".

I have worked for Davita for 6 months, and it is absolutely terrible!!!! The nurses are completely disrespected by the patients, pcts, and the FA. A nurse just this week was denied her raise because she called out 5x in 2008 with a doctors excuse and was denied her pto time when she tried to use it for her sick days!!! Ridiculous!!1
I was also denied my sick time and was told I had to use my entire Pto first before it would be touched!!! Considering I called in only once for a 3 day period with doctor's excuse. Company I am with now I just bought back 40hrs of my sick time for not calling out in a year. Was a nice chunk to pay for that new washer I needed lol. Wonder why I never got that exit interview corporate says it gives?
