Cyfair College Fall 2007

Published

Hi, everyone! I got accepted into Cyfair College for fall of 2007 and was wondering who else got accepted? Also, I am excited about getting into the program but at the same time I'm kind of nervous. Can anyone give me any information on what to expect with Cyfair's nursing program. Like how are the test, teachers, clinicals, or the program in general.

i don't know any info about cy-fair but i'm just here to congratulate you!:balloons:

Clinicals don't start until the second semester. Also, you will have Basic Skills, Advanced Skills, Health Assessment, Legal & Ethical, Intro to Nursing AND Pharmacology your first semester. I started in the spring so I will not be taking Pharm until my third semester (Thank God!). I am about to wrap up my first semester there and it is hard in some respects. I think keeping Organized is the key to the first semester. Also, if there are any pre reqs you have not completed, do it this summer! Congrats on getting in. It is a very exciting ride!

:balloons: Congrats! I start the nursing at Cyfair in fall too! So we are the newbies! From what I have read and heard organization is the key and time management in nursing school. We will find out everything in June at orientation, so lets hang in there enjoy our summer because starting Fall we will be fully dedicated and busy w/ school. I also agree that if you still have some prereqs to take then do so this summer! Congrats!

Congratulations about getting in!

I just have one question.. is it really difficult to get in?! Any advice? I want to apply for Spring 2008.

Thx!

I am applying for Spring 08'. Any idea what the cut off was? I'm going on with 11.489 and I'm really nervous. I 'm taking Pharm this semester because I thought we were supposed to take it before applying?

That should get you in. I got in last Spring with an 11.45 or something like that. There were people who got in who hadn't even taken Micro or A & P II yet! Are you taking Pharm at Cy-Fair? If not, you will have to take the HESI Pharm exam in order for them to give you credit for it. You have to pass with a score of 850. I know several people took Pharm elsewhere and have decided to retake it again at Cy-Fair. They only offer it in the fall and for those of us who have a Spring start, we take it our third semester ONLINE. We were not given the option to take the face to face class.

Thanks, wow. At North Harris you have to take it before the program starts. I guess even though they are in the same district, they are all different. I am taking it online/hybrid through Tomball. I heard Cy- Fair is the hardest, but I really don't want to wit another semester to got to North Harris. What do you think about the program there?

Cy fair is a progam all in its own! Our grading scale is even harder than the other nursing schools in the sytem. 74 is failing. 93 is an A. The best part of the program is that you learn all your skills the first semester in the lab. When you start clinical your second semester you are already checked off on starting IV's and inserting Foley's and stuff like that. I know the other schools don't learn things like that until they are further along in the program. I would stick with Cy Fair. I think the program is harder, but you come out knowing sooooo much!

As a graduate from the CyFair nursing program, I can tell you, that it is a very hard program to go through. However, I took the NCLEX yesterday and passed. I think CyFair does an incredible job of preparing you to take NCLEX. THere will be tears, failing grades, and kicks in the gut, but you will get through it by staying focused. When you don't like the professor, just remember in the end, you will learn to appreciate what they taught you and how tough they were on you. The professors aren't warm and fuzzy like you would like for them to be. They aren't there to be your friends or to be nice to you. I discovered that it isn't that they don't care, but that they have to put that wall up to get you to where you need to be. Yes, some of them do not have the best interpersonal skills, but those are the ones that are some of the best. YOu are just going to need to realize that it isn't anything personal against you although you will think it is. As long as you are doing your part, they will do theirs to help you get through. I am saying these things to you so that when you go through and you feel like you want to quit, you won't! We need good nurses and focused ones at that. My best advice to you is to not get caught up in all of the reading. YOu just can't read every word. Look at the charts and learn pathophysiology of each disease process along with nursing care and assessment. I learned about the diseases and assessment of and that is it. Learn your values. Listen to me.....you can not read every single word and expect to do great in this program. You will get bogged down, trust me....I have friends that get really bogged down in the reading. Some people need that security and if you are one of those, then that is your preference. I read everything first semester and part of second semester and learned that it was holding me back. Anyhow......I hope this helps you and have a great 2 years at CyFair. It will fly by and you will be so appreciative of it after it is over. Good luck and post if you ever have any questions.;)

Hi rnis4me,

Whats the market perception of Cy Fair graduates out there ? Do all of your classmates ( I heard there were 13 at the pinning ceremony) already have jobs ? Did most of you end up getting jobs at the same hospitals that we go for our clinicals ? When did you start looking for internships/Jobs. I am asking because I have 2 semesters to go but our teachers havent spoken at all about career and jobs after graduation.

Congrats on passing your NCLEX.

Texas Canadian----who are you???? :) I have two semesters left to go, too!
