How terrible. Is the nursing shortage getting better there?
I do relate the attempts to turn back wage gains to the easing of the shortage in this area.
I see a cycle here. Wages are stagnent, shortage follows. Wages go up, shortage eases, wages go stagnent shortage gets worse. These people never learn.
I was just doing some calculations from the latest NCLEX-RN result summary. I get about about 1500 GN nurses in the last reporting year for the SW PA area vs. about 700 GNs about 3 years ago.
Just a simple matter of supply and demand. If they've got someone else waiting to take your job, why should they try to make you happy?
I'm a bit worried since I've still got 18 months to go. I foresee some lean times for us.
