Curry Accel BSN- April 1st deadline

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hello!! I am looking heavily into applying for Curry's accel program. Is there anyone out there that has attended the program or is applying this year for the April 1st deadline?

Thanks, I am out of state so can't attend an info session.

Jenni, not sure if you attended the Info Session, but from your bio. You have what they are looking for:

GPA is around the 3.0s for undergrad

Your pre-reqs are not B- or below

If you feel confident about your essay then it must be good

Just make sure that you get a B- or higher in those pre-reqs that you are going to take

At the Info Session they talked about how they want the all around student. They pay attention to everything.

Wishing you all the best in the pre-reqs as well as in your admission!

Hi All!

Another Curry hopeful! I graduated in 1992 (yes, I am an old lady!) with a BS in Education (GPA 3.26). I received my JD in 1997. I have no healthcare experience which I hope does not hurt my chances. I have a 4.0 in my prereqs. I found it very difficult to sum everything up in a one page statement but my hope is that they get a sense of who I was, where I have been and what I hope to become. Best of luck to everyone! Hopefully, we will all be classmates come January!

You all sound like you are great candidates for the program! And thanks CNG12, that makes me feel better! :) I'm still a little worried that my undergrad GPA (3.23) is too low though compared to other applicants. I took all my prereqs after I graduated college so I hope they weigh that more heavily. Does anyone know if they combine undergrad GPA and prereq GPA if you took prereqs after you graduated?

I would not be overly concerned with the overall GPA. You are above what they are looking for and at the info. session, I did get a sense that the grades in the sciences prerequisites are carefully looked at and greatly taken into consideration. The grades in the prereqs are not averaged in to your overall GPA. They were very clear that there was not one area that would make or break a candidate.

I have a silly question. For those that applied, did you all double space your personal statement?

Thanks, PennyS! All the info you guys have is really helpful.PennyS -- I did not double-space my essay, but I did put a space between each paragraph. I didn't read anywhere on the web site or in the info packet I got that it had to be double-spaced, just one page.

I did not double space. They only wanted one page and if I had double spaced, I never would have been able to keep it under a page.

And ditto PennyS. I think they do heavily consider your prerequisite GPA. I remember last year when I applied, there were people on this message board that were accepted with undergrad GPAs just over 3.0 and others with very high undergrad GPAs that didn't get in at all. I think this shows that they are looking at the full picture, rather than one single element. So I hope you won't stress too much about your undergrad GPA because in total, you are a strong candidate.

Hey Guys!

Another Curry hopeful here :) I don't know if I can stand the wait...ugh we still have 2ish weeks to go right?

So anyways my stats - BA in dance (I know...so not science-y) from UCSD with GPA of 3.84 (again not hard when you are a dancer...you pretty much show up and dance / choreograph / critique and you get an A) so I a not sure how that will play out in the decision. I took all my sciences post graduation and got all A's in them. I am taking stats now so the jury is still out on that one. I just became a CNA and work at a hospice center, but I didn't get to put that in my resume since I got the job literally days after I submitted my application :/

Well you all sound so qualified and I am sure you will all get in! Please post when you start hearing back with acceptances so I can share in congratulating ya!

So where else did everyone apply? What are your #1 schools, #2 etc?

I applied to MGH and Duke as well, but am feeling I would like to stay in Boston since I just made a huge move from CA just 3 months ago. Also, I think I have a slim chance of getting into Duke :p

Hey Dancingfree! You sound like you meet all the requirements so I wouldn't be too worried! Plus your undergrad major makes you interesting. :) Right now my #1 choice is Curry, and since it had a very early application deadline, I'll see if I got in there and if not I'll start applying to schools in FL (where I currently live). Curry is the only place I've applied so far. This wait is killing me!! Good luck!

Hey jennyp29! Thanks for the kind words of encouragement :) And yes this wait is killing me too! I can't wait to find out and at the same time I am crazy nervous to find out! Best of luck to us all!

[color=#00ccff]we are approximately 1.5 weeks away ...

want to wish each one of you the best of luck!

Hello!

I applied to the program as well. I am excited and very nervous for the first week of May. I have a BS in Health Sciences and I've completed all of the prerequisites except for anatomy and physiology (which I am taking this summer) my lowest grade with the prerequisites is a B. I work as a case manager for the Mass Health funded Personal Care Assitiance program, working with OTs and RNs to determine Mass Health consumer's eligibility for personal care assistant services. I've also worked with adults with traumatic brain injuries as a life skills counselor. My undergrad GPA is a 3.0 but I hope that the prerequisites and my healthcare experience makes up for that! Best of luck to you all!!
