Current LPN seeking to obtain RN Licensure on line education options what to do

Published

I am a current LPN at an ALF, I am happy to have found a job and have been working there currently for six months and has had my license for seven months. I am still a new nurse however, I have come to realize just how difficult it is to return to college and take traditional classes. I have a scholarship for up until I obtain my BS, but I don't think any on line colleges except my scholarship and I hate to waste it. However, it is only valid for any educational institution in FL I believe. I am torn because from what I gather you don't have to go through rue or college network to obtain your degree they are publishing companies. These companies provide books and materials and does not include tuition for excelsior? I still don't quite understand, I know that I would think that I would need some structure or support. Does any one have suggestions about excelsior and it's program and if college network is better at support and materials than rue and what is the best and sure route to complete this venture and to save money. I have a lot of prerequistes to complete. I have only completed two which is ENC1101 and Sociology.

I thank you all for your time and patience. God bless!:)

Actually, look at Indiana state university, they have an online program that is very well rated. It has the LPN to BSN as well as the RN to BSN. the representatives actually come to you if you're not in Indiana. Hope this helped. Good luck!

There are numerous threads and posts about Excelsior College and the various publishing companies in the distance learning forum. You should take the time to read them as well as investigate Excelsior at the source: http://www.excelsior.edu

How do you like the Excelsior program? I just enrolled for LPN to RN program online. I haven't started it yet, not till after I take boards for LPN. Let me know how you like their program or not?

Please do a search and review the many threads here about The College Network and RUE before you make a decision to sign a contract with either one of them.

Sorry for the delay...I am actually in the same situation and after much research, I have selected Indiana state University online program. The only difference between the excelsior and ISU is that they offer a direct LPN to BSN and excelsior does not...Anything that you have taken in college will be applied and credited so you wont have to take it over. They are rated among the top online school for this program...I just received my book and am very happy with the material. They actually are affilliated in some way or follow somewhat the same curriculum. I hope this helps. It's great to go back right away while the infos is still hot :)

Nikkimodl,

I see your in FL...will FL honor your RN education from ISU? I am debating this route myself next year. Thanks!

I recently looked into this, and I'm from FL as well. The FL BON does honor the education from ISU. Also one of the big differences between ISU and Excelsior, at least from what I can tell, is that ISU's LPN-BSN program has regionally located clinicals whereas Excelsior just has a weekend of testing on clinical skills.
