  1. LMBO!!! on Celestial discharged!!! i Use this one for over anxious and unreasonable family members. BSC= bat **** crazy!
  2. i have contacted the local ombudsman, and so far have sent a letter to corporate this week and i am waiting on a response. Don't know what else to do. I honestly have a great staff that i am about to lose due to this person. They are breaking their back with "two people assist" patients that we are not supposed to be there...i am the interim DON but she will not make me official due to knowing what im capable of doing. We have had words but i refuse to walk away from my residents..They're entrusting us with their care... and their dignity...We owe them that...
  3. I have an been an LPN for 6 years! I love my Job! After working SNF for a few years, moved to assisted living. Definitely different. Great facility so once they opened a facility closer to home it was a no brainer, however, we have the most narcissistic, self centered, Executive director i have ever met.We have gone through 3 Directors of nursing in 1.5years. she is a bully to the residents, makes threatening comments t staff about their jobs and not to mention, allows inappropriate people to move in for the sake of additional rent. She micromanages and does not allow any department to make any decisions she has gone as far as telling the chef not to speak to a particular resident because he complains too much...Really??they pay her salary, Everyone notices what is going on and is absolutely petrified of coming FWD...I dont want to quit, i have opened that building and feel and sense of responsibility to my residents... Please advise
  4. you are a CNA of the building. not the wing. When you were hired, that was for the building and not a wing and even so, a cna must know all the residents because if for some reason you cant be there, someone else with no knowledge of these residents have to care for them and that is how accidents happen and ultimately, you are doing them (the residents) a disservice. The same thing with Nurses, whether ALF, skilled etc, at some point in time, you have to be familiar with at least the basics of the residents.
  5. wow....at the end of the day, we ALL save lives!!!! and make a difference whether RN or LPN, ... neither one is easy.....depending on circumstances, some of us may not be fortunate to be able to continue with our education..that is life..I dont think this was crying, more so venting...isn't that what this panel is for? to uplift each other and encourage and lend an ear ( or eyes) wink! I think some of us just take ourselves waaaayyyy too seriously..We are the good guys...Remember that!
  6. you did the right thing by telling the DON. We are not perfect. It was a true mistake; in the future just take your time to make sure you are addressing the right patient but kudos to being honest. A lot of nurses would have kept it quiet! Unfortunately, sometimes, that is how we learn.
  7. Sorry for the delay...I am actually in the same situation and after much research, I have selected Indiana state University online program. The only difference between the excelsior and ISU is that they offer a direct LPN to BSN and excelsior does not...Anything that you have taken in college will be applied and credited so you wont have to take it over. They are rated among the top online school for this program...I just received my book and am very happy with the material. They actually are affilliated in some way or follow somewhat the same curriculum. I hope this helps. It's great to go back right away while the infos is still hot :)
  8. I'm actualyy relocating because housing is more affordable than miami. Smaller town, great school. It's a great place to have a family and tetire but u must have a good job. :)
  9. As inconvenient as it may be, a count every time or a list would be your best bet...and that is the only way you can cover your butt. Anytime your license is in jeopardy, that takes priority over anything else
  10. Actually, look at Indiana state university, they have an online program that is very well rated. It has the LPN to BSN as well as the RN to BSN. the representatives actually come to you if you're not in Indiana. Hope this helped. Good luck!
  11. I think sometimes they look at the new comer as someone that is about to take their jobs, they may feel threatened and for what? But don't let them take that away...when I graduated, some of my classmates wouldn't tell me where they worked out of fear i may take their jobs. That is what i was told. What is that? You are there to help people feel better not to make coworkers feel better about their insecurities about you being there. Just find yourself people that are willing to teach you and move forward and remember that we are a " nursing unit" and we need to stick together.
  12. Thanks. that is a very good point. I will make arrangement to get there in person. Thanks again for the reply
  13. Hi, I graduated January of last year and after 60 online applications, I finally was hired at rehab center. Unfortunately, i am moving to Fort myers Florida and EVERY application i have put in is asking for a twelve month minimum experience. I love what I do, and I never envisioned doing anything else but im so disappointed with the market, I was told that most places prefer hiring new nurses but that has not been the case. I have placed 56 applications online in the past month and have gotten the same message" we need at least a year experience" Where do I get the experience if no one wants to hire new nurses? Please help!
