Curious: Any CNA's that don't want to be a nurse...

Specializes in Nursing Assistant.

Hey all. I'm curious. Are there are any of us out there working as aides that don't intend to become a nurse? It seems like a lot of CNA's do become nurses, but i'm honestly not interested in the field. I love my job as an aide, but i'm thinking of X-ray tech, OTA, or medical records.

I'm starting my CNA course in a month, and I have rough plans to eventually go on to be an RN (cart before the horse and all that, I know!) but I'm currently studying for the Pharmacy Tech test which I intend to take in the fall, and I'm not leaving out the possibility of doing any and all sorts of other medical-related stuff I can find.

It's a whole new world with all sorts of neat stuff! I'm excited!

I know a couple of people who work as CNA's but dont want to be nurses or even in the medical field. I have a friend who has worked as a CNA to obtain her degree in Bussiness Administration. Also, I have a friend who is now about to get done with his CNA course and he dosen't want to be a nurse but rather go into Political science or Bussiness Administration. Another person I know is a CNA and they are going to school for IT( computers). Alot of people work as CNA's but have no passion to become nurses due to the fact that being a CNA you can always find a job and have flexible hours while going to school. I personally love the contact with the pt's and have a desire to help them through a more indepth aspect. This is why I want to be a RN.

I'm a CNA but I don't plan on being a nurse, because I'm going into a completely different field altogether :) It's still in the healthcare field, just not nursing. However, I love being a CNA - I just don't think I could do this forever because my back is already starting to hurt after almost a year!

I thought about being a PTA or OTA for awhile.. I think it would be a great field to get into.

I'm with you Dreamyeyes. I love my job as an aide, and i'm grateful to be able to work in this field altogether, but as far as the physical side goes, i'm worried that eventually my body isn't going to like all the moving and pulling and transferring. I"m thinking of PTA or OTA as well, also X-ray or HIT.

I worked with a CNA who was going to school to be a computer programer.

Specializes in ER, OB.

i work with a cna that is going to school for ot. at my hospital ots do a ton of aide work. they help get people dressed and take a bath in the mornings. they make sure they are able to take care of themselves when they go home. i think that she will be really good at ot because she has been a cna so long. that is just an idea. good luck in whatever you do!:D

I planned on becoming a cna to get some experience working in the healthcare field and to earn some more money. I eventually want to be a sonographer and do ultrasounds. I enjoy working with people so i'm taking a cna class in a month.

I'va been a CNA (PCT) for over 30yrs, mostley Critical Care Trauma ICU and ER. I've never really wanted to do anything else. I love being a CNA

I have no intention of ever becoming a nurse. I will take my state exam on Friday and will seek employment at a hospital. I retired from my big fancy law firm paralegal job five years ago and decided to do volunteer work. Then I thought, "I might as well get paid something" so I took the CNA course. Let's see what happens next!

I have zero interest in becoming a nurse. My major is in political science where I'll be graduating next year. I plan on going to law school after working for a year or two to save money.

I used to want to be a nurse but I get sick of biting my tongue for 12 hours.

I'm planning to be an RN, but I've met plenty of people recently who have been CNA's for anywhere from 14-20 years, and they love doing just that. I think it's like anything else - just personal preference.
