Hey LeauVixen,
I'm currently attending Hostos, just transferred from BCC's nursing program, which was horrible experience to say the least. I'm applying for the Fall 2021 semester. I only have one pre-req left to take.
I'm wondering what your experience has been with Hostos, the nursing department in particular? Are you going in straight for the RN or the LPN program? What score did you have on your TEAS and do you know the cut-off? What feedback have you heard from other students?
I'd really appreciate any feedback, tips or advice.!!
Hey Stellaraj,
I have very little experience with the nursing department. Just as the website lack information so do the emails. to be honest I'm sticking it out with this school because if I were to transfer to LAGCC or BMCC I would have to take more classes to fulfill their pre-reqs.
I wanted to do the LPN program but it is only offered during the Fall semester and I wanted to get into nursing right away. I'm currently in the RN program conditionally as of right now. Before you are accepted into the RN program you pass dosages calculations text which I will be taking later this week.
I have not been able to reach out to other students or ask them about there their experience with this school thus far. I do know For Fall 2020 cohort there were only 16 students in the RN program. For Spring 2021 the conditionally accepted amount of RN students is 27 including myself but that can change later this week when we have the dosage test.
I did not do well on my TEAS exam I got a 69%. The program passing grade is 66.1%. My GPA 3.6. I took the TEAS on Dec 18 and I received the acceptance letter on Jan 9.
If you have any other questions I'm happy to answer
Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate all the information. I have a 3.8 GPA and I took the TEAS over a year ago and got a 75 so I should be able to get in the program. Although I'm thinking of going into the LPN and than doing the LPN to RN bridge.
I wasn't aware that there is a dosage and calculations exam you need to take.
Is there a dosage and Calc pre-requisite?
I took one at BCC but it doesn't transfer over.
Yes, I've emailed the nursing department a few times but haven't gotten all my questions answered. Good luck on your exam!
You're welcome.
no calculator is allowed for the test it's only 20 questions. No it not a pre-req that just want students to know how to calculate doses.
One word of advise have money saved up because there are a lot of requirements they want within the first 3 weeks of school and they are not cheap.
You will definitely get into the LPN.
Thank you so much!!
I just met with an advisor and enrolled in the only class I have left, Psy110.
Going to start studying for the TEAS again and reviewing my pharmacology notes and questions. Thank you so much, I am going to do that.
Best of luck to you.

@Leauvixen,
I was accepted to Hostos for Fall 2021 and was as I was browsing around noticed they won't have Che 105 for fall 2021. This would be the only class I would need to take as far as prereqs to appply.
I'll be taking MicroBio and Statistics this Summer.
I was wondering if it was true that Che 105 isn't offered in the Fall 2021 since I would have to transfers colleges.(Honestly had I know I wouldn't have accepted the offer & They don't advise you until you accept.
Thank you for your help.

FYI CHE 105 is no longer accepted for the RN program, the new requirement is CHE 110 .
@LeauVixen
HEY! How was your first semester in the program? Hope it went really well! ..So I got “conditionally” accepted to the LPN program. ?
I have orientation and the med-calculation exam next week. I’ve written a few emails asking what I need to study and/or if I need to know any medications and no one is responding. I called the nursing department and the lady told me she couldn’t answer that. Smh! Can you help me out on what to study? Math is my weakness! Especially algebra so I'm freaking out as I need the 80% minimum. I know you mentioned that no calculators are allowed. I'm assuming it's dosage calculation and conversions like grams to liters, and etc? Finding out how many pills to give based on the label they give? Dimensional analysis? Do we get medication labels? Or drug knowledge questions?
I'd appreciate any insight/advice. TIA!

I've been so busy studying nursing that I forgot about this site for a while. I'm sorry for not getting back to you sooner.
I hope you passed your dose cal test and are now enrolled in the LPN program.
I don't know much about the LPN program but you will have a professor named Denise she is the absolute best. She really cares about her students and making sure they learn what they need to know to become the best nurse they can be.
If you have been accepted into the program start practicing blood pressure Rite aid sells cuffs for less than $20. You will be tested on this at the end of the semester.
