Hey Everyone!
I didn't see a thread started for this years round of applications to the 2019 CU UCAN program at Anschutz so I decided to create one! I have submitted my application, has anyone else? Now I am just waiting to hear back!
I saw that groups in the past have met up prior to the interview to help with pre-interview jitters and to get to know one another. I would definitely be interested in doing that as well.
I think we should hear back by sometime in July. Also did anyone get the email about the new CASPer test you have to take if you get selected for an interview?
I'd love to talk to people applying this year!

You'll be assigned to a group with 3 other Prospective students and you will interview together. Usually with a faculty member and a member from this years cohort leading. They'll ask you a number of questions that aren't necessarily difficult, but are assessing group dynamics, personality types, ability to be efficient and follow directions. So just be yourself!
Congrats to everyone that got an interview! I also got one! The email sent out says we will get more information about the interview on 7/12/18 which is when i would imagine we are assigned our interview group?
Reading through previous posts, it looks like other interview groups met up before their interview to get to know one another. I would be interested in doing this! I will post my interview group when I receive it and would love to coordinate if possible!

Congrats, to all of you! I would definitely recommend meeting up before the interview and getting to know one another; it only makes the actual interview day less tense because you will already have people to connect with, and the faculty likes to see that you are interacting with one another and not treating the day like a blood sport.
Interviews are group format, as previously mentioned. You will get two "group assignments" where you have about 5 minutes to put together a short presentation or outline based on a given topic. One of the prompts given to my group was to put together a plan to educate anti-vaxers. We had about 5 or 10 minutes to prepare an outline and present our ideas, target population, how we would disseminate the information, etc.
You will also have time in the interview to answer 2-3 individual questions, which are essentially pulled out of a hat. Example: you are called to provide emergency international aid overseas; what is one thing you wouldn't bring and why? Questions will give you an opportunity to provide rationales that play off of your personal experiences, belief systems, morals and judgement, etc.
If my memory serves 1-2 are asked to everyone to answer individually. And then 1 is random out of a hat that is different for each person. My hat question was what my superpower would be lol. Its actually not a very stressful interview. Just be supportive of one another and youll be successful. At this point of the process you're 50/50 to be accepted. At least those were the figures for our cohort.
Hello everyone,
My name is Mallory.
This has been super informative so, thanks for all the advice to the current cohorts. I was invited to an interview as well and a past student recommended that I look up this site and here you all are!
I just found this thread. I am really liking this -meeting before the interview-plan, do you all live in Denver? I live in Steamboat Springs and will be coming up the day before so maybe coffee?

I just received my interview invitation email! Does anyone have an idea on how the interviews are set up/ the types of questions they typically ask? I do not know anyone who has been through them previously, so I thought this would be a good forum to seek some advice. Also, congrats to everyone that also received their invitation!
