CSUSM ABSN FALL 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hi, Starting this for anyone applying to the FALL 2020 cohort at CSUSM. I think the deadline is March 11th. Good luck everyone!

Hi Leah,

At this time the School of Nursing has made the decision to push the Summer cohort to Fall due to the pandemic. This has affected all of our cohorts for Summer.

The next cohort we will be admitting for is the Spring 2021 cohort which will be located at the San Marcos.

I understand the frustration and this was only just relayed to me and the student services team recently.

Thank you,

Out of Office: I am currently working remotely while our physical offices are temporarily closed. Please continue to email me with any questions or concerns during this time.

Does that mean that the Fall 2020 cohort will become the Spring 2021 cohort? I'm confused

All the cohorts have been pushed back a whole semester. The Summer cohort will start in Fall & will pretty much become the Fall cohort. The next cohort that is being admitted will be for Spring, none for Fall. Most likely any applicants that have originally applied for Fall will be combined and evaluated with the Spring applicants because the application should be good for a year. Admission might be more competitive because of the number of applicants ?

I really hope we don’t get push back to Spring ?.... I emailed them last week about the status of my evaluation and I was told it might take a couple more weeks, no mention of being pushed to Spring.

If you applied for Fall 2020 that slot has now been given to Summer 2020. Fall 2020 will now become Spring 2021.

This became official yesterday. And has been verified. ?

Do you have the email, page, or document verifying this?

Their lack of communication to Fall 2020 applicants is getting me irritated. I haven’t received any notice if this

The combining of Fall 2020 applicants and Spring 2021 applicants sound really unfair to me. What’s the point of applying to Fall 2020 then? The least they can do is push back their Spring 2021 applicants to Summer 2021 or Fall 2021.

Also, regarding past posts, we should be getting admission decisions by next month, correct?

Here is the email response I received yesterday. I had to reach out to get the information.

I just realized that you posted this email yesterday, and I responded to it. My bad ?

This is very disheartening

It's frustrating for all of us cause current cohorts aren't receiving as much info as we'd like either (just like how they told us very minute that our cohort will be moving to SM, while most of us already secured a place in Temecula). But you also have to understand that the faculty is trying to handle everything, especially for all the cohorts that need clinical hours. There's about 6 current cohorts and 1 incoming cohort at this time, so I'm sure it's just as stressful for them to make sure that everyone has their requirements met to graduate. Many nursing schools are in the same situation right now with putting classes and clinicals on hold because of covid 19.

Although this is not official nor verified, combining the pool of applicants for this fall & Spring seems to make the most sense to get back to a normal rotation of applicants, instead of having to constantly keep pushing back applicants a full semester. Yes, it's a bigger pool of applicants, but everyone is still evaluated and admitted based on points.

This screenshot is an update from the community page for current cohorts that have been admitted.

I understand the frustration that everyone may have and that the faculty is trying their best to provide the best education as well have everyone to meet their graduation requirements amidst the whole covid-19 situation. I apologize if I came off as inconsiderate. Thank for your providing a screenshot from the community page. And I guess we will have to see what will happen these upcoming days/weeks.
