CSUSB Fall 2012 Hopefuls

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey everyone!

Well we made it mighty far and now we are done with pre reqs and on to applying!

I am applying to the 2012 cohort and would like to invite everyone else that is applying to post here for any questions, concerns or comments!

Well I am about to put in my application. So far I have all pre reqs done, pending algebra this winter intersession. My Teas test is done, my letters of rec are on their way and basically all I am waiting for is final transcripts!

Good luck to everyone who applied

Let the wait begin!

I called the admissions office a couple weeks back and essentially got the same answer that you did. I just went ahead and paid the deposit. My outlook on the issue was this. I'd rather pay the fee and lose it because I don't get accepted into the program than not pay it and get accepted but not be able to attend because I didn't.

Hi @Dark @Mikey,

I'm a bit confused. I never received any email about paying a deposit. The only email I've received is about my incomplete application. I turned in my initial transcripts to the Nursing department, but I thought transcripts to the school weren't due until July. Have you guys already been accepted into the school? Maybe that's why I haven't received an email about paying a deposit? Idk..

My thing is the money.

I dont have a lot of it. $100 to you may not be a big deal, but it is to me.

I just think that it is so stupid that CSUSB should have a deal for us transfers that have to wait for the nursing programs decision. They should understand that because of the state, and the economy, they aren't getting funding because CA is broke. Well don't you think the citizens are broke as well?

It shouldn't have to be a gamble. They should know that since nursing is soooooooo competitive because everyone and their mom wants to be nurses, that you can't just apply to one school. You have to apply to many! That way your chances increase.

The way the admissions people sounded, like, if you apply to CSUSB, then you should attend there, regardless of the program you applied for. To me, that is pretty naive of them. I honestly do not care where I go, as long as I get accepted.

Another thing that ****** me off was that not only did admissions but the nursing program people all sounded so 'too bad, so sad.' That really ticked me off. Could they have been a little empathetic? At least the nursing program people should have! Sorry I don't make tons of money to throw away because you guys [CSUSB] have a stupid system where you let 'courses in progress' be considered. That is crap. My pre reqs have been done since fall of last year! If they do let 'courses in progress' in then, they should have something for the people that have been done with them! This is getting ridiculous!

And also, they sounded like this issue never happens. I even told them, that I cannot be the first nor the last person to have this issue. They just said people just attend the school anyway....um no...not me.

Sorry for my rant, I am just pretty POed at this situation. I had a feeling that them letting us know in July would have been a problem. Then I thought, no, admissions will have a deal for all of us nursing prospects. Of course they didn't. How typical.

Ugh whatever. I guess I shall waste my freaking $100 on that stupid school....

I too didn't receive any email about a deposit. I didn't turn in transcripts either because they are due in July. @DarkBluePhoenix When is the deposit due? We should be hearing back from CSULB in a couple weeks so if the due date is after that you should just save your $100 and wait to see whether or not you even need to put a deposit in.

That was my thought too spiffister!

Well, not only is the deposit due (luckily May 1st) but like April 16th, I have to register for orientation for transfers. It is mandatory.

I was thinking we should hear from CSULB either next week or the week after.

If I receive good news, unlikely as it is, then I wont have to worry about CSUSB:up:

If I receive bad news like I am an alternate or something:down:, which is more than likely, then I guess I will pay the $100 and hope that people choose to go somewhere else other than CSULB.

But for now, I guess I am screwed...It is just a waiting game, as usual....

I am still worried about my denial from CSULB admissions. I email CSULB nursing program and they didn't email me back regarding that. So I am thinking about calling tomorrow just to see what to do. Maybe I can semi-find out about my status to the program that way.

Have you filled out your 2012-13 FAFSA and sent the results to CSUSB? When I got into the college last fall as a pre-nursing major I wasn't required to send in a deposit. I was thinking it was because they knew I was going to be getting loans which would cover the tuition (I do not qualify for grants at all) so they knew I was good for the money? Might be worth a shot....

ALSO... How many people got emails about the incomplete application? Was it from the college or the nursing department? I haven't got any... But when I went in the office last week to verify something, they had all my stuff and I have the yellow receipt.

OK nevermind to the second part I realize now the emails people are getting are from the actual college...

I got incomplete app email as well. I called admissions and they said its just because it is depended on final transcripts. I didn't worry about it.

And yes they are from the admissions

On a happy note: If anyone is like me in that they have an issue paying the deposit when they may not get into the program, then I have the answer. After getting an SOL response from both the nursing program and admissions, I emailed the admissions director and she assured me that WE would get a refund if we do not get into the program. That is good news. I am keeping the email in case they want to fight about it later. I doubt I will get into the program so it will come in handy.

does anyone know how many students get accepted from how many applications they receive each application cycle? and is fall most competitive to get into followed by winter, then spring?

can anyone provide the minimum stats for people that got in to the programs recently?

I think bout 40-60.....I think, like as in that was a guesstimate!

Did you apply here? It is easy to get into the university...you should apply for spring and try to get into their winter program.

From what we were told during the advising session, about 40 - 45 people are admitted into the program every application period and the number of applications are around 800, so that's the top 5% of applicants being accepted. They only accept applications for the fall and winter quarters and yes, the fall is more competitive than the winter. Also, in regards to the minimum stats, we were also told that the average accepted applicant had an 82% on the TEAS and an average GPA of 3.61 on the nine prerequisite courses.

Hopefully that helps out.

I wish they would have stated the cut off score...and is that an average OVERALL GPA or just pre req? If its overall, then I am screwed
