Hello!
I was wondering if anyone is/has applied to CSUS for Fall '11. If so, what are your points looking like? How did you do on the TEAS exam (pretty tough huh?) I want to compare info!!!
I have a question, are the 9 required units of upper division GE included within the nursing program or do you have to take other classes. I have completed all pre-requisites and lower division GE so far. Thanks for any feedback.
I was in the second bachelor's program, but it is my understanding that only the 3 units of N169 (Reasoning Development in Health Care Sciences) can count toward the required 9 units of upper division GE. That leaves you on the hook for the other 6 units.
Hi all -
For those of you going through your list of things to purchase, if you want a place that is a little less expensive for stethoscopes, try allheart.com. I have no affiliation with them, but they were recommended as a pretty inexpensive place to buy things and they have both of the stethoscopes listed for less!
I have no kids or spouse though I do think they could come in handy over the next two years! :-) It is surprising that there are only 8 (mainly because I know a lot of people wanting to start nursing school), but I know I didn't find out that Sac was an option until pretty late. I had thought most of the CSU's weren't an option for second bachelors.
csusfallhopeful- I have three kids...13, 10 and 5. Glad to hear there will be others like me!
oaktown2- Haha! I agree that the kids will come in handy over the next two years! I have 3 little case studies of my own! The number of second bachelors surprised me too, so I'd like to see that confirmed at orientation, but a Sac State employee who was detailing the new ABSN program for me told me there were only 8 second bachelor's students admitted in this Fall 2011 class. I'd guess that might change slightly when they go through the waiting list, but likely not much. (The ABSN program is like $35k- this program seems like a much better deal considering all aspects, however, their ABSN program is much cheaper than Samuel Merritt ) Thanks for the heads up on the allheart website!
Looking forward to meeting all of you!
So I saw you and runningrn2be are both 2nd bachelor's students as well. I talked to someone yesterday at sac state and she said that there were only 8 2nd bachelor's students, which surprised me. Do either of you have spouses and/or families as well?
I am married and I have 4 kids - 3 of whom are in their 20's and out of the house (and 2 are working as nurses!), while our youngest is age 13. I am probably the oldest student in the class. I am still wavering on whether or not I should go forward with the program. I work full-time in a different profession and will have to quit, which is a major decision.
I am surprised at the low number of 2nd bachelor students, although I think many people probably didn't know they could apply. Many had probably given up on Sac State, since we weren't allowed to apply for several semesters.

Several of my classmates have worked, but have found it difficult to do so. The time demands during the first two semesters are intense. Based on my experience (I just graduated from the program this past weekend), I'd strongly suggest that you try to get through the first year without working. If you can't swing that financially, try to keep work to 20 hours or less per week, and pay close attention to time management.
Good luck. It's a great program.
