CSUS Fall '11 Hopefuls....??

Published

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone is/has applied to CSUS for Fall '11. If so, what are your points looking like? How did you do on the TEAS exam (pretty tough huh?) I want to compare info!!! :D

No kidding? 2 of your kids are working as nurses? That's fabulous. I convinced our old nanny to become a nurse as well...she's already working and I'm just starting but oh well...

I had to give notice at my current company as well to do this...it'll be a little bit of a struggle on one income, and I feel like it's lots of juggling to make the schedules all work, but I feel like I have given up alot already to try to do this, so I'm going to find a way to make it work now!

I totally agree that many second bachelor's students didn't know the program had opened back up. They had told me to check back March 1st about the ABSN program...and I'm glad I checked back early and they'd opened this back up. It's a fraction of the cost of the ABSN program. I know a few people who ended up doing Samuel Merritt and one other that is applying there now. It's just more than I can afford with a kid who will be starting college in 5 years.

Are you considering other programs or just staying put?

Davismom - I'm considering applying to Sac State for the spring, to give myself time to put more $$$ in savings. I also have looked at Samuel Merritt - and with their program being only 12 months, if you run the numbers, even with their high tuition, it ends up costing less than Sac State if you get a job right away (and that is a BIG if!). But, for me, I think the Sac State program is a better fit. The breaks between semesters will give my mind a chance to digest all that I will be learning.

I hope to make up my mind this week. I don't want to tie up a spot in the program that could go to someone else.

runningrn2be- Sounds well thought out. You are indeed correct if you account for lost work time. A friend of mine went through the Samuel Merritt MSN-NP program and tried to dissuade me from their ABSN program because it's so fast. I'd still like to be a part of my kids' lives, so the 12 month format isn't ideal for me either. I agree with you..I prefer a little more time to digest the material and will look forward to the break between semesters to enjoy time with my family.

The time it's taking for new grads to find a job would be a great question for the administrators at SacState...they should have pretty good data from their last few graduating classes.

Hope you will be part of our class, because after raising four kids, you should have a tremendous amount to add to our class.

Hi Everyone!

Is anyone else having trouble with purchasing the ATI materials on the ATI website? I am using the codes that she gave us under the instructions, but it keeps saying that the codes are invalid. Wanted to check here before emailing her because I know they are really busy!

Thanks!!

I called today and it appears that they have the codes reversed so if you put them in the opposite fields it should work. I hope that helps as I had the same problem.

runningrn2be - did you decide whether or not you would be doing the Sac program this fall? I found out today that I was accepted to Samuel Merritt for the fall in SF (which is where I currently live) and it makes me rethink things because it would mean that I didn't have to move, but I do think the Sac program is a better fit for me. I worry that 12 months is just way too fast and 2 years at Sac gives the economy a little more time to improve. I also *might* be able to keep some hours at my current job, which would help and I know that I couldn't do that at SMU.

Hi all 2nd bachelors going into sac state nursing program. I am currently taking the pre requisites and since I already have a degree I am wondering if there are any pre requisites that are not required due to my previous degree.

The pre-reqs are required for all. Obviously, if you have taken them you wouldn't need to again, but if you haven't you need to take them. Your degree only exempts you from some graduation requirements once you have been enrolled.

Oaktown2 - Congrats on being accepted to Samuel Merritt! Now you have a big decision to make, which isn't easy. Your point about 2 years giving the economy more time to improve is a good one. If you did do the Samuel Merritt program, and IF you got a job right away after completing it, you would be way ahead of the rest of us! It is the "IF" that is the hard part - no one knows when this economy will improve, or when there will be more nursing jobs in California.

I have decided not to do the Sac State program this fall, and to continue working full time. I plan to apply again to CSUS for the spring, and also apply to Samuel Merritt's Sacramento ABSN program.

Good luck with your decision! :)

runningrn2be - sorry to hear you won't be joining us! (And I do still think of it as us which means that I will probably stick with Sac State.) The thought of that much debt in this economy just makes me nervous. Good luck with the application process for next spring!

runningrn2be- Sorry you won't be joining us as well. I know that was probably a hard decision.

oaktown2-So glad you will be joining us and I look forward to meeting you in class! I don't want the debt from SM either. Which clinical rotation are you enrolled in?

davismom - I think I am in 4. I really wanted to be in 9 - I would love to do a rotation at the VA. But hopefully I will have a chance at another. How about you?

Right now I am going from being excited to start it all and overwhelmed with all that needs to be done between now and the end of Aug!
