Hello! I'm new to allnurses.com and I hope I can fit in with you guys :D:redbeathe

I'm surprised that no one else has started a thread about CSU Long Beach's nursing interview for Fall 2011! The Interviews begin next week and isn't anyone out there as nervous as I am! I live in Norcal so the long drive down to Long Beach, will hopefully be well worth it!

I have only gathered small bits and pieces of information about the interview for CSULB and if you guys would like to share what you know with me; that would help a lot.

From previous threads on nursing Fall 2010 >> https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/csu-long-beach-452445.html

Another two weeks?!? Did she say why it would take so long?

They love to torture us before we torture them. I guess lol

Hahaha that's funny but definitely not fair! Now I'm definitely going to be impatient since I expected to find out sometime this week :/ oh well, thanks for the update :)

hey guys. i'm a first semester csulb trimester student. if you guys have any questions about anything, i'll respond asap. :)

I don't apply until jan but hows the program

how do you try to get into the trimester program

is it harder than the basic?

how are the instructors?

and lastly

are you lovin' it!

the program requires a lot of studying...especially if you haven't already gotten pathophysiology or pharmacology out of the way. if you have, you've made your life easier. it's all about application of the knowledge, like "what would you do in this situation?" or "what would you assess for in this patient?" rather than only memorizing the facts. clinicals aren't bad at all. the first day, everyone was nervous, which is natural. but it really isn't bad. in fact, some students and i were saying we'd rather have clinical than have lecture haha. pre-planning is time consuming though. the first time will take a while, but the more you do it, the faster you'll get because certain medications or diagnoses will repeat in the patients you choose to work with.

there's 36 students in basic and 54 students in trimester. at the nursing orientation, everyone gets a little index card where they write down which program they want to be in. at my orientation, more than 36 people wanted basic and so the instructors asked for volunteers to move to trimester. but then not a lot of people volunteered, so they chose people from basic at random and moved them to trimester. i can't say that trimester is harder than basic because the first semester, both programs are at the exact same pace. what makes trimester "harder" is that trimester students have to take full course loads over summer, so we don't have a summer vacation except for a one week break before the summer semester and after the summer semester. i'm actually kind of worried about how that'll go since the summer semester will be short and i want to get as good of grades as i can possibly get.

the instructors i have this semester are actually pretty great, although there's maybe one or two classes that i don't find necessary but are "easy A" courses. they're very approachable because they want to make sure you understand the material. the tests can be tough cuz like i said earlier, it's more about application of the knowledge than memorization. my clinical instructor is also really amazing!!! she is really patient and is willing to help you out during clinical. only downside to that is that other clinical instructors from other semesters are not as nice/lenient, so that might be a challenge for me next sem. if i have a stricter clinical instructor.

even though it's time consuming and there's some things that the department can do to organize it better, i absolutely love it. i love working in the clinical setting and i love my classmates. we all try to help each other out because, as the instructors will tell you @ orientation and on the first day of school, it's not really a competition between everyone anymore because we're each other's support system. i've met some great people so far in the program and we always try to help each other out when it comes to study materials for our tests and what not.

so are you applying for spring 2012 BeachBedHead?

lol

I am a transfer and they said they do not know if they are taking transfers, they didnt in spring 2011 or spring 2010. Plus I will still have a math in progress and the o-chem/biochem class this fall (i couldnt get in spring), so not worth it to apply. I dont want to apply unless I KNOW i will get in.

I am very good at math and chem (acing both gen chem and physical chem at cal poly, and taking calculus there but it doesnt transfer) so i am back at citrus college saving money and taking college algebra (easy a) and the chem class and apply for fall 2012.

I have a 4.0 in sciences and a 3.25 in the ge. gpa (havent factored in the math or chem) if get an A in chem, that will keep my science at a 4.0, and an A in alegbra will make my ge gpa go to 3.5.

all I have to do is factor in the TEAS which I am taking this nov. at CSULA, if I get invited, which according to their appliation procedure, you get invited if you have the top GPA which is "according to their pre reqs" is a 3.8.

Does anyone know how many times you can take the TEAS? If CSULA invites me (i am applying to their fall 2012 too) and CSULB invites me to take it, can I take it both times?

i was a transfer student and i got accepted for spring 2011 and so did a lot of my other classmates. i almost couldn't apply because applications for spring 2011 were closed to transfers for the longest time until they opened it in the summer since the school got the funding. i think it's up in the air again w/whether or not they'll be accepting transfers for spring since there's another budget cut happening right now to all of the schools.

i'm not sure how many times you can take the TEAS. i actually took mine at loma linda university and they only allow you to take it twice.

Oh well even if they are taking transfers, I will have 2 classes in progress. Oh well. Hopefully by the time we all get our BSN, there will be jobs!

How is everyone holding up waiting for the CSULB decision? I'm pretty frustrated b/c I don't know when or how CSULB will make a decision and I'm being pressed hard by other colleges to decline or accept admission to their programs ....Guess we'll hear something next week? Is anyone else out there finding themselves faced with turning down other college programs while waiting for the CSULB decision?

When do they post the list in front of nursing dept? Do they post it online too?
