CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!

Published

Hello! I'm new to allnurses.com and I hope I can fit in with you guys :D:redbeathe

I'm surprised that no one else has started a thread about CSU Long Beach's nursing interview for Fall 2011! The Interviews begin next week and isn't anyone out there as nervous as I am! I live in Norcal so the long drive down to Long Beach, will hopefully be well worth it!

I have only gathered small bits and pieces of information about the interview for CSULB and if you guys would like to share what you know with me; that would help a lot.

From previous threads on nursing Fall 2010 >> https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/csu-long-beach-452445.html

Well, I will try again. I was so excited to get the interview, hoping to become at least an alternate. Instead, due to unforeseen and unfortunate events, many people like me were rejected. I was hoping I could at least attend CSULB itself, but I don't think they allow that. I hope that for spring 2012 they will accept transfers..

hey there CSprenursing, hopefully you DID put an alternate major when you applied, right? :x

i put an alternate major, but i really do not remember which one i put down, but CSULB sent me a letter saying i can go to their school but i have to promise that i wont apply to the nursing department ever again... do they actually check if you keep your promise? i was thinking that i could go to LB for the fall and then apply for spring since technically CSULB students have a better chance at getting into the program.

Aznbc105: hows the program? Since you got Patho and Pharm out of the way is it less intense?

LoveLikeWoe - I believe the stipend/contract program is only available during or after your 3rd semester. I do not know how $ each recipient get but I do know, from talking with recent grads, that the amount is decreasing each year. I don't know the exact eligibilities but I do know some sort of interview is involved. I would think grades and clinical instructor evaluations (especially if they work for LBMMC) will be taken into account. I spoke to quite a few recent grads (graduated within 1 year) and it appears LBMMC is impacted right now. I believe they are working full-time but most are not assigned to a specific unit. I also heard the starting pay is average, in comparison with other hospitals.

Bcho86 - 1st semester can be a bit easier if you already took pharm & physio. Some of my classmates that didn't have to take those classes, were able to get some capstone classes out of the way.

piamia4ever- sorry for the late reply! My friend from the nursing department actually sent me the list a couple days ago :) Btw, Congrats!!

Bcho86- Congrats!! :) my question was...since you already completed a lot of the requirements for the spring cohort which I have also done as well, do you know if we can use the same information for the orientation in June?

Bcho86- it's a little easier, but I feel that my classmates who are taking pharm and patho right now are learning way more than I ever did... so that's a disadvantage for me... but N200 (Intro to Nursing) is enough to drive you insane. Most people are getting Cs.

Just be prepared... the nursing classes make the pre-reqs look like nothing. Exams are computerized, timed (almost one minute per question), and you can't go back to the question to recheck your answer. The questions are all critical thinking and applying, so memorization isn't going to help you pass. For clinicals, it's stressful because of tests (must pass with 100%) and careplanning. Everything is so fast paced; you learn a skill and then you get tested. Overall, great experience though and you learn so much.

I was looking for an MSN Fall 2011 CSULB thread, but stumbled upon this one. Brings back memories when I was trying to get into CSULB...and I actually graduated from there. Someone asked if you get to pick classes or it's just GIVEN to you...well the answer is it's given to you. You are pretty much on a set track and don't have options as to what times you want your classes to be. And I'm surprised less people wanted the tri-mester program. I started out in the basic program, but switched over...and I don't regret it at all! Finish one year early, just gotta suck it up for a few weeks in the summer, but it wasn't so bad. Congrats to everyone....now I'm playing the waiting game w/ the MSN program. Go figure.

Stopped by the Nursing department this morning and took pics of both the ELM and Basic/Trimester List. The Basic/Trimester list was incomplete, but looks like the ELM program has their list out with alternates already. R u on the list fran_cake?

Hi ifonly,

I didn't apply to the ELM program since I already have a BSN. I applied to the MSN-NP prog. Thanks for the look out anyway. :)

does anyone know the exact number of spots left of the basic/trimester program?

when i checked it was something like 27 spots left.

63 names were on the list....27 spots left as of last week when I checked.

No problem, fran_cake. When exactly do you find out if you got in? Do you have any advice about professors and rotations?
