Hello! I'm new to allnurses.com and I hope I can fit in with you guys :redbeathe
I'm surprised that no one else has started a thread about CSU Long Beach's nursing interview for Fall 2011! The Interviews begin next week and isn't anyone out there as nervous as I am! I live in Norcal so the long drive down to Long Beach, will hopefully be well worth it!
I have only gathered small bits and pieces of information about the interview for CSULB and if you guys would like to share what you know with me; that would help a lot.
From previous threads on nursing Fall 2010 >> https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/csu-long-beach-452445.html
I think what is most upsetting is the letter I received today in the mail from CSULB saying I was denied b/c my stats were NOT as good as those admitted into the 90 spots for Fall '11. don't get me wrong-i have NO problem if someone more qualified from the original 120 who interviewed in March were accepted, but I think we all know on this forum that that was NOT the case......CSULB should be honest in the letters they are sending out by saying, sorry but you were not as qualified as the top 25 transfers who got in. that would be more correct than saying everyone who got called back for the 2nd application process in mid-April is more qualified than all of us who interviewed in March. its' not fair for CSULB to pretend that all the 120 interviewees were considered for the 90 spots b/c we all know that is not the case.....the 120 interviewees were only considered for the 25 transfer spots...it's insulting to say otherwise.
I would honestly, I dont know, fight that. I would call and see how was someone more qualified than you?
What did they have no life? No job, no kids etc....? all 4.0 plus 100% on TEAS come on,
I agree with you, CSULB was my top choice, but hearing this shady business and how they are favoring their own students, who (again no offense to CSULB students) are not as academically qualified as some of the transfers that apply. makes me not want to go there now. especially how their not being honest about it.
I can bet you a bunch of the CSULB students who had 3.3-3.8 got spots over you a transfer with
a 4.0
thats ridiculous!
I know people are going to bash me and say "no its a university, those a&p and chem classes are harder than CC!"
um no, I have people with biochem masters in my phsio class that are having a decent time. so it depends on the teacher and the school. just because you took anatomy at a university (which is most of the time a intro anatomy, i.e. not anatomy for say-biology or zoology majors) doesn't mean you had it harder than those of us going to a CC.
I go to a CC and we have a really hard and well known science program. my phsyiology teacher take MCAT questions, yes your saw that correctly, MCAT questions and puts them on our midterms!!!!
so yes I would definitely bug them ask them whats up? why exactly weren't you good enough? I would ask about the CSULB 3.5 person who go in over you....its bs.
and the fact that they didn't even inform on their website that they were only taking the top xx transfer students...its just really shady
I know the economy sucks, but don't screw the CC/transfer students who maybe needed to save money or couldn't afford a cal state yet...
I hope you get into CSUSB....
oh..by the way, i didn't get rejected from CSUSB. they just haven't made any sort of decision yet in regards to FAll '11 admission. CSUSB nurse dept said decisions won't be made until mid-july.
do you know how they rank their applicants? there is like absolutely nothing on their website but the requirements about how points are issued....
I would really like to know because right now, with CSULB pulling their BS, and I am decently sure I can get into CSULA (hopefullly) but as far as CSUSB, i don't how they rank. i tried to research, but i couldn't find anything. do they do points? what is weighed more? overall GPA? or pre req GPA? or is the letters of rec really a big factor?
if you know their process or how they rank or a link to where the list of info is at. please pm with it or post it up here
thanks!
Hey Guys! I just wanted to say Congrats to everyone who will be starting nursing in fall of 2011. And to those of you who did not, I hope you do not give up on your dream of becoming a nurse, there are many opportunities for you to still be accepted into a nursing school! And although the budget crisis was the reason most of you did not get an acceptance, I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason and wish you all the best of luck in the future!
On a lighter note, for those of you who DID make it in, I am excited to meet you all at the orientation on June 10th. Has anyone started any of the vaccinations required before then? Also, what path are you thinking about choosing: trimester or basic?
Well, I will try again. I was so excited to get the interview, hoping to become at least an alternate. Instead, due to unforeseen and unfortunate events, many people like me were rejected. I was hoping I could at least attend CSULB itself, but I don't think they allow that. I hope that for spring 2012 they will accept transfers..
Lovelikewoe: See you at orientation! As for vaccines, I've gotten all mine done for the Spring 2011 cohort, so all I need is the CPR license. As stated in your check list, get your blood check up done, that will depict if you would need a booster shot (low on immunoglobulins). Even though I would like to get out in 2 years, I think having my summers and not being rushed would give a better chance for a higher grade. So, I'll opt for the basic program. What about you? Anyone who needs help, please feel free to ask me anything regarding the papers that need to be done before the orientation. :)
Does anyone know anything about the contract available through Long Beach Memorial Hospital? I heard if you sign a contract that you will work for them for 2 years after you graduate they give you money.
A few questions regarding that:
1. How much money do they offer?
2. Who is eligible (for example do you have to keep a certain GPA etc.)
3. I have also heard that although you are offered a job, since the hospital is so impacted with everyone taking them up on this offer, you don't necessarily receive hours and are put "on call". Does this mean you're basically sitting around for 2 years not making any money or working that much because you signed a contract with them and can't get another job at another hospital?
Thanks and let me know. I'm sure we will hear about it at orientation but it would be GREAT to hear some insider information regarding all of this.
:)
