Hello! I'm new to allnurses.com and I hope I can fit in with you guys :redbeathe
I'm surprised that no one else has started a thread about CSU Long Beach's nursing interview for Fall 2011! The Interviews begin next week and isn't anyone out there as nervous as I am! I live in Norcal so the long drive down to Long Beach, will hopefully be well worth it!
I have only gathered small bits and pieces of information about the interview for CSULB and if you guys would like to share what you know with me; that would help a lot.
From previous threads on nursing Fall 2010 >> https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/csu-long-beach-452445.html
Wait can someone explain what happened about the transfer situation?
They are only taking a few transfers into fall? ***** That's not fair especially since normally spring would be closed to transfers. does anyone know about fall 2012? That's when I will he applying. I hope they don't put some stupid limit on transfers especially for the fall admittance.
They can do other things to help not getting any gd applicants. like take off the "1 course in progress" or shut down spring for transfers but when fall comes around, make it a free for all.
This whole letting their own students in is not fair to the rest of us. I mean if you compare fall 2010 statistics and spring 2010 statistics, did you see the difference when transfers are allowed vs CSULB only students. No offense to their own students but they were NO WHERE NEAR as competitive as fall was. i don't know this state is sure ticking me off

The budget cut situation made it necessary to limit the number of transfer students accepted into the program for Fall 2011 to only 25 students. It is highly unlikely they will take any for the Spring and probably take a limited number for Fall 2012 unless the budget situation changes for the better, I believe. Don't quote me though.
While this is unfortunate, it is quite fair the school give priority to csulb students since they've been accepted into the university & paying the higher tuition for prerequisite classes at csulb. It's a tough choice either way and I don't envy the people making these tough choices right now.
Gl Beachbedhead, I really hope the situation is better when u apply and that u get in......
yeh..with everything that happened this application cycle, i can NOT rely on the presumption that CSULB will allow any transfers in for the fall 12 cycle.
so in the year b/w now and then, and since I have no nursing prereq's remaining, i will go ahead and try to improve my TEAS score but also take prereq's into a bio/pre-med major so if i don't get into the nursing program, i think my grades will be good enough to get me into a bio major in fall 12 and then i'll just pursue the pre-med route. i did want to be a nurse, but if CSU nursing has increasingly uncertain admissions which will only get worse as the economy worsens, at least i can be a doctor b/c med school admissions at UC's will always be open equally to all CA residents which is nice....i mean, no one can guarantee that the CSU nursing programs will not close admissions entirely to transfers in the next few cycles.
i am still waiting for a decision from CSUS - where statistics from fall 10 implied i had a VERY good chance to get in for sure if all spots into their program were open competitively to everyone. but CSUS admission has been dead quiet since their application deadline, so i have a very bad feeling that what happened at CSULB has happened there...meaning i will not have gotten into any school....guess i'm just trying to plan for the inevitable.
beachbedhead, did you get into any CSU BSN program aside from the one at CSULB?
Oh I don't apply until this fall (for CSULA) and next spring (CSULB and CSUSB). I think you should also try CSULA and CSUSB. good BSN programs and you already filled their req and I would do an ADN program because med school plus internships and fellowships is like 10+ years. I bet you could get accepted to one of the two schools I mentioned above or have you looked into UCLAs nursing program?
ADN might the.way to go. you.can bridge Rn-bsn and you have you RN license quicker
just a few thoughts
hey beachbedhead - do you think CSU's will be accepting external transfers in spring? i have applied to CSUSB for Fall '11 but when i called nursing dept to ask when we'd hear back from them they said they wouldn't make any decisions until mid-july when Spring '11 grades are in. that is WAY too long to wait for me esp. b/c i have to make arrangements ahead of time to move, etc. if needed. also, i had preferred to start a 2-yr program instead of a 3-yr program in order to keep costs down, and i know CSUSB & CSULA are 3-yr programs, right? and no way would i apply to UCLA b/c they're website said slots are extremely limited for external transfers, which was a major understatement b/c UCLA ended up only accepted 1 external transfer (non-RN) into their BSN program for Fall 11.
Wow. This is getting to point of ridiculousness. Ya know? I mean. Don't you have a 4.0?
How did you not get accepted?
You got rejected from CSUSB? How's their admission process, they are the only school that I don't know much of how their accepting people. As for them all be 3 years, yes unfortunately. But hey I am also applying for ADN programs just in case. You should too.
As for.not being accepted, I would call and ask why. That's bs that even with a pretty decent teas score and a 4.0 you have been rejected..
If.so there's no hope for me then

Wow! 22flowers, u were rejected from other CSU as well. I can't imagine u were rejected with ur stats. Maybe it was some other reason...did u call to ask y u were not accepted? I realize u r so disappointed, but u shouldn't give up. U have great stats and should definitely reapply.
