CSULB Nursing Interview Fall 2011!!!

Published

Hello! I'm new to allnurses.com and I hope I can fit in with you guys :D:redbeathe

I'm surprised that no one else has started a thread about CSU Long Beach's nursing interview for Fall 2011! The Interviews begin next week and isn't anyone out there as nervous as I am! I live in Norcal so the long drive down to Long Beach, will hopefully be well worth it!

I have only gathered small bits and pieces of information about the interview for CSULB and if you guys would like to share what you know with me; that would help a lot.

From previous threads on nursing Fall 2010 >> https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/csu-long-beach-452445.html

oh okay.thank you! .phew..it's so tough to get in. lol

I find it shocking that only 25 CSULB students applied for Fall 2011. I'm assuming of the 25, many had less than the cutoff score which is why they are inviting those form the Spring 2011 batch. Now this may sound biased, but I think this is pretty fair. Of the 90 students accepted every semester, it's usually half transfer students and half CSULB students. I think it would make CSULB (as a school) look "bad" for a lack of better terms, if 95% of their nursing class comprised of transfer students. I'm not taking away from the work of transfer students. Transfer students on average always have better stats than CSULB students. Science prerequisites have the same content wherever you take it whether it be in CSULB or a CC, but factor in possibly differences in difficulty levels and pre-established relationships with CSULB's prerequisite teachers-- I think it's their way to level the playing field between transfers and CSULB students.

Hope we can an answer this week

I never read on their website that they gave half of their seats to university students and half to transfer. I thought it was all fair game for everyone each semester, and that they didn't favor the previously applied students. What happened to integrity?

Any update for you guys in the BSN program? The MSN program is waiting to hear back as well (I am thinking we will find out shortly after you) :D

I called today and the lady told me to call back Wednesday. This better not be something to get my hopes up.. for NOTHING! :(

I got the same call too. From what I was told, for the Fall 2011 pool, only 25 CSULB students applied and there was more than enough room to fill in the CSULB student seats, and due to the budget cut, they'll will be accepting more CSULB students over transfters, so transfers are still accepted. So basically, they're calling back CSULB students who met the cut off line for Fall 2011 cohort, who either got rejected or was on the alternate list from spring 2011. Hope that cleared things up.

Did you get called back for an interview? What is your score?

I already went through an interview for spring, so it is not required. Right now she just told me to wait, and she strongly hinted that I will definitely hear back from them. Not crossing any fingers or legs, had high hopes last for the spring 2011 cohort, only to find out that I was dropped from the waiting list cause the semester has started. =/

Oooh I see. for spring, I didn't even get an interview =/. Which was why I was surprised to get that phone call. I got a score of 8.39. The woman told me that the cuttoff was 8.55. so i missed it by 0.16 =/. Would you mind telling me your score for spring?

@marnold: what your score now? or, did you get the chance to raise it?

my score is the same because there wasn't much i could do. I have up on LB and tried CSULA.

So the ones who were alternates for spring 2011, or have being interviewed are among the 120 applicants who went to the interview? during the interview they said that they picked out 120 top applicants and they were going to choose 90. My question is, if people from srping 2011 are among those 120 applicants?
