Hello. I wanted to create this forum for people who are applying to Cal State Long Beach for Fall 2020. This is a place where we can compare and discuss statistics between us, as well as ask questions regarding the program.

im applying for fall 2020 and I just submitted my app. Can someone please lmk what they think about my chances? Thank you!
Science GPA: 3.93 (=3.93 points)
GE GPA: 4.0 (= 2 points)
TEAS Composite Score 86.7% ( = 1.73 points)
TEAS Reading Score 89.4% (= 1.79 points)
total = 9.45
I think my science GPA is actually 3.8 since there was 5 classes and I go a B in one, right?
so my overall score would be = 9.32
(this was the cutoff for last year so I’m pretty scared. Hopefully I get to at least be called in for the communications exercise because I’m really good at interviews/communication!)

I'm sorry you had to take two chem classes(unless you like chem)! I don't think your GPA is necessarily 3.8, since your classes have different weight in your GPA depending on how many units they are, if that makes any sense. I'm not sure how they'll calculate your GPA since you have 2 chem courses and csulb's chem course is just a 5 unit course. Haha, I'm the opposite, I'm awful at interviews! Hopefully we can all make it (-:

I can help you if you give me exactly how many credits each class was... if you remember that ?

SO MAD. Wish I would've seen this before. Probably would've waited and applied for Spring 2021 if I would've known what a massive difference it would have been. They accept 85 people versus 80 and has a 4th of the applicants ? 200+ verses 800+ is such a huge difference. Oh well, if I don't get in I guess I could apply again in Spring. You have only two chances.

2 chem courses - each 4 units
anatomy - 5 units
Physio - 5 units
micro - 5 units
Thank you so much! Each course had it’s incorporated lab section so that’s why they aren’t separate ?

No worries! So according to my calculations you have a 3.826
chem 1: 4×4 = 16
chem 2: 4×3 = 12
anatomy: 5×4 = 20
physiology: 5×4 = 20
microbiology: 5×4 = 20
Total Credits: 23
88 Grade Points divided by 23 Total Credits = 3.826
That's really interesting that your school made you take such high creidt courses AND 2 chem courses. I only had to take 1 Chem, 1 Anatomy, 1 Physio, and 1 Micro class... My chem class was 5 credits total, and the rest were 4 credits. Your total science credits were 23, while mine was only 17. ? lol weird.

So my pt would be 9.35! And yeah I’m from the Bay Area and geographically there was nothing in my radius chem related that would fulfill the requirement so I had to take 2 sem of chem ?

Yeah, there are much fewer applicants in Spring, but I figured I finished my prereqs last semester, so why not? We have a 2nd chance anyways. Are you a current csulb student btw? I'm guessing from the fact your chem was 5 units and the other sciences were 4 lol

Yeah that makes sense. I went to West Los Angeles College which is a LA unified community college. Most of their classes are very compatible with CSU Long Beach and CSU Los Angeles which are the only two schools I’m applying to! I’m not willing to move or get an associate degree. I know I’m being stubborn so I better get into one of them! Lol

Actually I went to West Los Angeles college! Hopefully they don’t favor the current CSULB students lol

I don't think they will; they haven't in the past. I've heard that most of the time, of all of the students that get in, only a few of did their prereqs at csulb. Most of the students that are admitted are transfers from community colleges

I had to take 2 chem classes to fulfill the chem requirement! My school didnt offer just one that would be enough. And they also only do letter A/B/C grading system and no symbols + or -
