CSULB FALL 2020

Published

Hello. I wanted to create this forum for people who are applying to Cal State Long Beach for Fall 2020. This is a place where we can compare and discuss statistics between us, as well as ask questions regarding the program.

Thank you for answering all my questions! I have another one LOL. How long are your Christmas breaks? 1 or 2 weeks?

No worries. Christmas breaks last about 4 weeks. For the trimester program you will have a 1 week break prior to, and after, your Summer trimester(s).

For those who are in the semester program, do you go to a different hospital for each class and each day of clinicals? What's the hospital farthest from CSULB that you've had to travel to?

I can live with that. 4 weeks Xmas break for both trimester and semester right? And 2 weeks off in the Summer is totally fine. I’d be done in 21 months anyways! LOL

Seems like this COVID-19 is really making an impact. I’m very pleased that the department is acknowledging its magnitude and is allowing people to reschedule the communication exercise if they fall ill. Hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

I saw that! So glad they are being less strict and allowing people to reschedule if needed. It’s not fair to anybody if someone is forced to go to school sick in fear that they may not get into the program. I used to go to school sick on the first week so many times because I was scared of being dropped.

I’m really glad they are allowing us to reschedule. I volunteer at the hospital and feel that sooner or later I might get sick. I was kind of worried that I would miss the communication exercise and not get in the program? now I feel less anxious LOL

@ninja1968 Thank you for asking all those questions to the current CSULB SON students. They shared some much info! thank you guys!

No problem!! I’m sure we all had the same questions... I want to know everything because in the case I am accepted into both CSULA and CSULB, I want to make sure I know all the details before deciding on which one to go to.

We all sure have a lot of questions LOL I also applied to both CSULA and CSULB. I’m in the same situation, I live closer to CSULA but CSULB is my first choice even if I have to move. I now have a better idea of what to expect, just have to wait for their admission decisions ?

Yeah sounds like we are in the exact same boat LOL. Where in LA do you live? Are you thinking of semester or trimester at CSULB? If I had the luxury of moving I would do semester so I could have my summers off.

LOL Yes, we are. I live in North Hollywood. I’m thinking trimester, I’m a little old and I want to be licensed before I turn 30 haha yeah summers off would be nice. If I get accepted I will have to relocate regardless.

Curious if CSULB offers decent financial aid packages? I currently don’t qualify for any aid at my community college, I do, however have my classes “waived”... but absolutely no aid. I make about 45,000$ a year, but obviously once I am in nursing school that would drastically dwindle to much much less. I did the math and if I work only on weekends I would be only making 15,000$ (roughly) since those are the slow days at my job. I was hoping since the cost of CSULB is higher than CC, and also since I would be taking more classes (I only take 2 classes at a time at CC), that I would qualify for something! If not I’m not sure I would be able to live well financially. I would get a loan if I have to, and I also have a savings account specifically for when I go to nursing school LOL... no parents help at all. My boyfriend will help as much as possible, but he definitely isn’t loaded or anything and won’t be able to cover all the costs. Just curious what your financial aid experience was ?? To the current CSULB students. Any advice is appreciated! You guys are godsends
