CSULB Fall 2014

Published

Hey everyone!

Did anyone else apply to CSULB for Fall 2014? The school app was due last Saturday, and then we have the month of January to submit for the School of Nursing.

Based on previous threads, it looks like we are invited to an interview about a month after the deadline, and the cutoff was ~9.1 points.

Here are my stats so we can see how we stand this year!

Science GPA: 3.58

GE GPA: 3.77

TEAS: 97.3

TEAS Math: 100

I think that works out to about 9.4 points... the average keeps rising each year, so it would be nice to see where we all fall!

Good luck everyone :)

Hey JFriday,

I was curious about the schedule too! I looked at the schedule of classes for Fall 2013 and looked up the first semester classes (200, 202, 302, 305, and 339) and there was a couple sections of each. I worked out a mock schedule though, with Mondays off, Tuesday-9:30-12:15 and 2-3:45; Wednesdays- 9-11, 1-4, and 7-10; Thursdays off and Fridays clinical 7-4.

So lecture majority of the day 2x a week and clinicals 9hrs 1x a week.

That's just from looking online, so maybe someone in the program can confirm?

Hi!

I live in Long Beach. I am currently studying to take the board exam and am hoping to find someone in the same boat who might be interested in a study group/partner. I really think it helps motivate me. Message me if your interested. Thanks!

What board exam? We haven't even been accepted into a school yet….lol

Sorry for the confusion. I haven't taken my NCLEX yet and am looking to see if anyone would like too study with me. I live in LB and I'm looking for people local. This was the only thread I could find who might have locals in the same boat. I am seeking to apply for the CSLB FNP program as soon as I complete all of the requirements. If you know of anyone, message me! Thanks.

I have applied to CSULB for Fall 2014 also. I am really anxious to hear back from them...my score is 9.29, but seeing some of the other people's scores on here is making me feel a little worried.

Has anyone heard about when they are sending out interview invites? I'm trying to book a trip during spring break (last week of march) and I'm really hoping that the interview won't be during that week. I don't want to book my plane tickets until I know for sure!

Hello hopeful Fall 2014 students; I am currently a 1st semester (Spring 2014) nursing student at CSULB and can hopefully clear up some of the questions I saw on here....trust me it's confusing and it really doesn't get any easier.

Acceptance into the program is STRICTLY merit based, meaning they send out acceptances starting with the highest scores and work to the lowest. They do NOT have reserved spots for transfers/current/males(sorry guys)/girls/disadvantaged/etc students. If the top students were all transfers then all the 1st semester nursing students would be transfer students, they will not favor their own over others. And if you get into the nursing program than you are going to be accepted into the university, that's a given. However since you are applying to BOTH the school and the nursing program you could be accepted into the school and NOT the nursing program.

As for how many spots they have I couldn't answer that as looking at their prior years the numbers sometimes vary and I don't know what determines that (budget maybe). The best you could do is get in contact with the correct people and just ask, trust me they're VERY helpful, kind, and understand the stresses you guys are experiencing.

Also as for how classes are scheduled, you will NEVER get to pick the nursing courses dates/times you take them, they are assigned to you. However that being said the times for your classes are generally reasonable. For example my main nursing lecture and nursing comm class are same day with an hour break between, so I'm at school from 9am-2pm. There doesn't appear to be any SUPER early classes nor evening classes. Any general ed courses you need though you can sign up for through the school and pick whatever you want as long as it's not conflicting. Clinical is 1 day a week for first semester students and appears to be on either Mondays or Fridays (for us at least) depending on which group you get tossed into - and clinical is from 7:00am to 4:00pm although it usually ends around 3:00.

That's all I can think of offhand, let me know if you have any other questions or concerns I can maybe help with. I hope everyone who wants this gets in, it truly is an amazing and beautiful school and the nursing program staff is so helpful and genuinely wants to see everyone succeed. Also clinicals are much more fun than stressful (just keep up on studies, this aint general ed anymore). Oh yea if you're in trimester than your first few semesters you'll be at long beach memorial and if you're basic than they'll put you in other local smaller hospitals. I'm trimester btw.

Interesting about no reserved spots for transfer students . I would hope in general CSULB student/academic quality & standards will be higher (or not the same) as CC transfers. I would think it would be fairer that they should give favor to current CSULB students first over transfer imo.

Hi toomuchcoffee , I'm new in this website . I just read your post, thank you it was. Eh helpful. Could you please tell me more about the interview process and if you don't mind what your score was ?

Thank you

Hello, Toomuchcoffee!!

Thanks for the info… And I'm glad someone with experience helped chime in on a newcomer thread, that is really nice of you !!

Question: I really want to get into the trimester program. How difficult/what grades did you have to get selected?

Is it just lottery to find out if you are trimester/semester?

No, it says in the packet that after the first semester, the students with the highest grades are invited into the trimester program. Spots open up when students turn down the offer, and choose to remain in the semester program.
