Hey everyone!
Did anyone else apply to CSULB for Fall 2014? The school app was due last Saturday, and then we have the month of January to submit for the School of Nursing.
Based on previous threads, it looks like we are invited to an interview about a month after the deadline, and the cutoff was ~9.1 points.
Here are my stats so we can see how we stand this year!
Science GPA: 3.58
GE GPA: 3.77
TEAS: 97.3
TEAS Math: 100
I think that works out to about 9.4 points... the average keeps rising each year, so it would be nice to see where we all fall!
Good luck everyone :)
Can someone please explain the interview process ? I'm wondering if the interview would be hard for someone like me who have been in the U.S.A for 4 years and English is also my second language ? Everyone is just saying it's about watching a movie , no one ever talked about what the movie is about and what questions we have to answer about the movie ? Is it possible that someone wouldn't pass the interview at all ?
Thanks

Unfortunately I don't think we're allowed to discuss the specifics but if you can speak English, can communicate with others, can give and take directions, and can write well, then you will be fine. Its not stressful, its fun and easy going. Think of it as a group activity and not a traditional interview and just remember that everyone is just as nervous as you are!
TO anyone in the program, Were there more than enough seats for students that wanted the Trimester Program? Or were some not given the chance? Were there limited seats? How did that work with choosing the schedule?
I got into CSULA, but I'd rather start in Spring with the Trimester Program at LB. I am just worried that I'd somehow get stuck in the Semester program, and be behind LA a semester to start with.
Any info would be appreciated...
:)
it was right down the middle pretty much. there will always be a couple people who must switch to the other route but they are chosen at random and don't have a choice in the matter. This time around I think 1 or 2 people had to be moved to trimester to fill the 40 spots, but I know each incoming class is different. You request where you want to go, they tally up the totals, and then draw names at random and move them if they need to. There are no guarantees and if I were you I would stay at LA and not risk it. I got lucky, but other don't.
Thank you, but I don't completely understand. Is the entire drawing of seats done at random?
Some people that wanted semester got moved to trimester? Or some that wanted Trimester got moved to Semester? The way you explained it, there were plenty of Trimester seats.
Once they tally up the totals for preference, do they draw a lottery for the extra spots, or the lottery is for the entire trimester cohort?
And, if the drawing is completely random? Why do they even ask a preference?
Can you please explain a little more?
I don't want to go to LA, so it's just this TRi program selection that has me questioning the switch.
SO let me put out a hypothetical situation, and let me know if I'm on to it:
There are 70 accepted (40 for Trimester + 30 for Semester)
They let students give a preference, But there will always be one side with too much preference, and one with not enough. (Let's hypothetically say--- 35 choose trimester & 35 choose semester)
Because there are too many students that chose Semester, a raffle for seats in the Semester program will be held.
Out of the 35 wanting Sem, 30 win the raffle, and 5 don't get drawn and are moved to Tri
In the end, everyone that wanted Trimester got it, and 5 people that wanted Semester had to go into the Trimester program because they lost the raffle.
Is this about it??
you get a card with your name on it and write check the box for basic or trimester. of the 70 students, 40 must go to trimester and 30 must go to basic. there were too many in basic and not enough in trimester this time around. So, for example, I think there were 38 who signed up for trimester and 32 who signed up for basic. 2 people, chosen at random from the stack of cards in the basic pile, were called out and told they were being moved to trimester. In past semesters, there have been too many in trimester, so they pulled X amount of trimester cards at random and had to place them into basic. bottom line, you are not guaranteed which program you get into if they have to pull people from one program and put them in the other. SO, you could get into trimester, but they need 2 more in basic, and they pick YOUR card and you automatically get switched because NO ONE volunteers to switch to even out the groups. like I said, stay at LA or risk it.
