CSULB Fall 2012 BSN

Published

Hi!

I think the CSULB School of nursing recently post new pool statistics including those who were chosen for Fall 2011.

Knowing that the rating average is 8.91/10, that seems like a huge difference than the previous semesters!

Anyone else planning to apply to CSULB Fall 2012 BSN program?

Wait, actually now that I'm looking at it it's really unclear. It says it has to be done by July, but then it says to bring any paperwork of titers with you to orientation. I'll call the SON tomorrow and try to clear it up.

The vaccines/titers and PE are due July 30th, but I'm sure they're just having you bring paperwork in case you need help uploading it. The only thing due on June 8th is the uploading of your DL and registering for that background check/Magnus website.

By the way, for the student RN insurance you'll have to register on or after June 15th because they only allow the effective date (August 15th as required by CSULB) to become effective within 60 days of the day you sign up for it.

Ok thanks Ana! That definitely clears things up. And thanks for the info about the insurance!

Re: Immunizations:

GET TITERS FIRST!

If you already have immunity as proven by your titers, you do not need to get the immunizations. You are already immune. This will save you a ton of money. If your insurance doesn't cover this or if you do not have insurance, I suggest getting your titers and shots at the Long Beach Health Department. Good Prices, no lines, great service.

They commonly have Flu and H1N1 free immunization clinics, so keep an eye on their site or call to ask when the next ones are being held.

I took a hint from one of your previous post and I actually called them today to inquire about and appointment and prices. After pressing button after button I got to the part to make an appointment but it just rang and rang and rang. From the sound of the operator on the prompts they do take walk ins, but it's iffy and no guarantee you'll be seen, but you say the lines aren't bad?

Guess I'll try to call again early Monday for an appointment and if I can't get through I'll just go really early one morning. But just to clarify they do the titers and NOT just the vaccines right? And they're the right type? Quantitative?

Thanks

I apologize for my error... The Long Beach Health Department is the place for Vaccinations and Boosters...I got my titers through Long Beach City College where I was going to school for my pre-reqs. They gave them to me at a drastic discount and sent me to Quest Diagnostics for my titers. I suggest asking your school health center if they have a similar program, because Quest can be pretty expensive if you don't get it through the school.

I'm sorry for the confusion...

I did titers in Rio Hondo College. It was $40 each. Flue shot was $10. Each vaccination was $40. I never took a class from the school. So, the price is not so bad.

I had one vaccination in CSULB the other day. It was $35.

How long ago did you go there to have these services done? I called yesterday and was told I couldn't be seen because I wasn't enrolled in the current semester.

It was 5 months ago.

I just signed up by online, but I didn't take any class. You can register fake classes and drop it later. You will get full refund.

I had to go twice. First day I had a physical check up, blood test, and titers.

For second time, I got all result. As I didn't have immunity for Hepatitis B, I had to take a shot. Doctor comes only twice a week, so it will take for a week to complete all.

Maybe you can try your community college too.

$40 per titer? Wow, what a rip off. I did my Hep B and Rubella titers at Goldenwest College earlier in the week (since Kaiser doesn't offer the quantitative results) and it only cost me $35 total (including the phlebotomy fee).

Everyone please take advantage of the local community college that you are attending to fulfill your healthcare requirements for CSULB!!!! Since I am uninsured I was sure that this would be a HUGE EXPENSIVE HEADACHE for me! The recommendations on the website for CVS and Assenca were outrageous! I spent a few days calling around and even requested help from the forum.

Dr. Choco mentioned that they got theirs done at Rio Hondo. I called but you had to be CURRENTLY registered so that didn't work. The school I'll be graduating from Health Center is not that comprehensive. Then I had a light bulb. Ok more of a "duh" moment. Thanks goodness for the Organic and BioChem class I'm taking at Harbor (who thought I'd ever say that?!?)

Anywho I went in and I was able to do everything!!! A big headache of my shoulders (now only to figure out how to load this crap on the website)

So the physical was Free99. The TB test was $10 and the titers were ONLY $20 a piece. I've been previously vaccinated and I have immunity so the only vaccine I was required to take was the Tdap (because it's changed since I last had it in 2007 Bummer) The cool part about it was even though they offer it at the school clinic for a free she gave me the info to have it done for you guessed it Free99 at the local public health center. For those of you requiring vaccines I would contact your local public health center and see which ones you guys an get for free!

Hope this helps

I am glad that you finally finished all requirement. I have up loaded all documents in Magnus health Portal today. It took two hours to complete.

I think my community college told me that there is free vaccination place. I don't remember the name though. If you call your community college, they may able to give you information.

I had physical exam 5 months ago. If it is too old, I am thinking to register a PE class in Cypress College during summer. If you are a current student, physical exam and vaccinations are all free.
