Hello,
The application for CSULB EL-MSN Fall 2010 is due Friday April 2nd! Get your stuff in! Has anybody that has submitted already, gotten a confirmation back or heard anything. I submitted the first week in March and nothing for me yet. I hear there will be an interview for the first time this year. Goodluck everyone!! I got impatient waiting for someone to start a thread for us applicants...so I just did it :)
I just bought all of my books from amazon for 400$. I bought all the ones that come with a cd new and 2 used. I thought it was the least expensive way to go. As far as financial aid, I haven't been offered anything yet, but I was only added as a student during orientation, so it might take longer ( I was an alternate). Are ELM students awarded only loans because of already having a bachelor's?

Financial Aid:
I was able to accept/decline the financial aid this week. I also got the offer letter via mail. As far as I know, for those who already have bachelors (so that's us) are only eligible for loans (subsidized and unsubsidized). For both Sub and unsub, you do not need to make payments while in school. However, subsidized is better since no interest accrues while you are in school. For unsub, you still are responsible for the interest.
Book:
I am confused on the bundle deal. First of all, how many bundle deals are out there? Is there a bundle sold by the CSULB bookstore? I tried to check this out this past Monday but they didn't have any info. They only have summer books out so far. The clerk said to check back August on bookstore website: www.shopthebeach.com.
The bundle I found was on www.shopelsevier.com. However, this does not include all the books on the list that we received on the orientation day. You would have to purchase three books on your own: "Caring making a difference," "The patient's voice," and "Publication manual of the American..." But these are pretty cheap according to what I found on amazon.com: $8.50, $34.79, and $24.44, respectively.
To search for the bundle on elsevier.com, do the following:
1. Simply enter "California State Unversity" to find our school
2. select "NUR200-202 FALL 2010"
3. click "Search."
It will give you the the bundle info. It's $743.25, last time I checked. This includes hardcopy and ebook. If you can handle the course without the ebook, it would be definitely cheaper to purchase each book separately online. I would get the ones that have CDs at least. I am still debating. I have seen some students that I tutored prerequisites using ebooks from elsevier and it looked really convenient.
There is a way to purchase ebooks separately just in case you want to purchase one for one or two of the books. Go to http://evolveebookstore.elsevier.com/
I believe these are the books required ONLY for nursing 202 and 200. I checked out the CSULB bookstore website and looked into some of other nursing courses (e.g. Nursing 260: Older Adult Heath Care), they require different books other than the ones in the bundle. If you want to see for yourself, check out the CSULB bookstore website for the required books for some of the nursing courses offered this summer.
So I guess I will just wait to see what CSULB bookstore has to offer.
Hi peeps,Has anyone been able to see the "Accelerated" link under organizations on Beachboard? I got an email referring to it and it's not showing up for me.
Apparently, it's got a contact list for the ELM groups and also a tentative schedule.
Make sure you're logging into the "Spring 2010 or Earlier BeachBoard Courses" section of BeachBoard, don't click on the Summer link....
Hopefully you'll be able to see Accelerated Nursing Program on the right-hand side, under My Organizations.

Hi LJC714,
Can you give me more info on how you got all the books for $400? I tried searching for the books via Amazon/Half/etc but it ended up being more expensive if I get the eBooks and hardcopy.
Hi,
I first checked out the Elsevier bundle and noticed that it included most, but not all of the books for $743.25. I saw that I could get much better prices through Amazon for the same books (I'm talking about the physical book, not the e-book. If you want the e-book too, Elsevier may have the better package). For example: Medical-Surgical Nursing: Patient-Centered Collaborative Care, 2-Volume Set on Amazon costs $106.60 new or used for $90.61. On Elsevier the same book costs $130. Some of the books come with a cd or access code new, with supplemental materials, such as practice quizzes and animations, so for those books I bought them new. Books like The Patient's Voice, I bought used, because they do not have these extra features. I remember that some of the ISBN numbers were a little bit off, so I checked out the pictures on the Elsevier website bundle here: http://www.shopelsevier.com/package_shop.php?CSID=QTT0QQM0MCT0CUDCMKTATOOTO and matched it with the ones on amazon. With taxes and shipping my total for all the books was 440. Hope that helped!
The patient's voice:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/080360162X/ref=oss_product
Caring: Making a difference: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0615268625/ref=oss_product
Interpersonal Relationships: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1416029133/ref=oss_product
Besides the patient's voice, caring: making a difference, and interpersonal relationships, I'm also thinking about buying nursing diagnosis handbook used. It seems to be a paperback book without any extra features if bought new. Anyone have any suggestions on this book?
I know on the front cover it says to register the book to access student materials. Sometimes if you buy a book used and it has already been registered, you cannot access this information. Our ELM group is so small, I'm sure a lot of us can share the extra material. Just got an email with the new book list for N260 and patho/pharm/nutrition. Check your emails!

i might be late about this, but i just realized that my financial aid package has shown up on mycsulb. i think it's only available for viewing at this point (no options for accepting/declining awards), but if you haven't done so already, you might want to take a gander at what they've got to offer. :]
