CSULA's ABSN program Summer 2019

Published

Hello there!

I would love to start a thread of those applying for CSULA's ABSN program for summer 2019. I was hoping we could give each other some support and hopefully get to know each other a bit before starting school! I'm a little worried as I hear that the program is super competitive and I don't have many volunteer hours or experience. Is this a deciding factor in the decision process?

@deelyjoh That is likely the case! I didn't even know I got a call until after I read the email! She apparently called my home phone at 4:30pm but didn't leave a voicemail. I received my offer letter email a half hour later.

Make sure to check all phones! I don't remember putting my home phone on my application, and I was staring at my cell phone the whole day ?

Congrats to the incoming cohort so far and goodluck to those who have yet to hear!

PS. Has anyone besides me started looking at the summer session schedule? I took a peak (before I even found out I got in) and got excited, but also nervous.

Now, excuse me as I commence *googling possible vacation destinations before June 3rd* ?‍?

Hello everyone!

First-time poster, long-time anxious stalker. I got the call today about being offered a spot in the program but didn't want to post anything until I got my email #paranoid.

Anyway, about the immunizations/titers. When I was interviewing, I told Dr. Hinoki I had my vaccinations and records, so she told me the next step was to do the titers to confirm immunity. If your blood work comes back and you don't have immunity, then you would need to get booster for it.

Lastly, congrats to all of you who also got offers, and good luck to those still waiting!

Thanks for making the list @deelyjoh! Excited to see this list grow tomorrow ?

Also, I noticed on our Budget Sheet that Dr. Hinoki gave us that the LA County Fire class is listed as $75, I found one for $40 through LA Fire Card (that's the organization name). I hope it's valid because I got my card through them already... They also offer the CPR/BLS certification through the AHA for $50. @RNtobe26 I would've totally took the class with you guys, but I did them already ? lol

Hey @etchensketch, where are you able to see the schedule for our summer classes? Would you have a link you can provide by any chance please? Tx!

Hey guys, I started a FB group for this cohort. Please search for " CSULA ABSN 2019 Cohort" and request to join ok?

@E.R Silverlake Login to your GET > Self Service > Class Search. Select Term "Summer Session 2019", Select Subject "Nursing", then click Search.

Then you can see the 4 courses we have, which are listed here under Summer I.

It's pretty much either a Mon-Tue-Wed-Thu schedule OR a Mon-Tue + Fri-Sat schedule.

This is great. Thank you. Just sent my request!

Just sent my request too! Can't wait to meet everyone :D

@etchensketch, thank you so much for posting about the class schedule! I can't believe how much more real that makes things seem (and helps everyone plan... which I'm sure is a common thread among many of us).

Hey guys! You can add me to the list too, got the phone call yesterday and just found out this forum exists! Super excited to meet everyone. I'll be moving down from the Bay Area in the next month so lots of exciting changes! ?

Congrats bkturtle, I was really rooting for you, as you were a second time applicant !! Yay!!!

Thank you! I was finishing up an EMT call at a SNF and the whole nursing staff was outside taking pics and I screamed and cried “I just got into nursing school!” And was sobbing and the whole team started clapping. It was amazing! I worked so long and hard for this. I’m familiar with rejection so for those who are looking at this thread and feeling really bad about not getting a call, just know that was me last year and I kept going and here I am.

I'll be moving down to LA in approximately a month. Any chance any of you are looking for a roommate or to share an apartment? I'm trying to minimize costs, seeing as I'll be cutting a check for 30 G's...

Also, any recommendations on good places to live relatively close to Cal State? Thanks!

Holy cow haha, I missed out on all the action! Congrats to all those that heard the news and good luck in the program! No word here, but it's alll goood ? I was recently accepted into a local CC with a concurrent BSN through CSUF, so it worked out in the end. As somebody else mentioned, we will all find our paths. Thank you all for the support throughout the application process ?
