  1. You’re assigned the clinical site for the duration of that semester, so again for example: I was at Kaiser Woodland Hills for Nursing Fundamentals in the Summer, then at Cedars for Med Surg 1 and Huntington in Pasadena for Psych. Unless it’s Spring semester then you’re at your assigned Advanced Med Surg site (LAC USC for me) for the entire semester and then you have Peds for the first 5 weeks then OB for the last 5 weeks. Peds, OB, and Public Health are the shorter clinicals (in duration) whereas Med Surg are the longer ones. You usually change sites each semester depending on availability. In rare occasions will you have the same clinical site again in the following semesters, though it does happen. For example for me I was at LAC USC for Advanced Med Surg (they have an excellent ICU rotation), Public Health, and OB. But that’s only because at the beginning of the surge LAC USC was one of the only sites accepting nursing students at the time. I’m sure it’ll be better availabilities for you guys ? Hope that helps!
  2. I think ------------------------- tries to schedule lectures Mon-Wed then clinicals Thu-Fri (and maybe a weekend day). And if I remember correctly, it was only a few weeks into starting the program that we actually started clinicals...
  3. ^ in addition: these are only sites our cohort had. Other cohorts may or may not have had the same sites. But the ones that are almost always constant are: LAC USC, Cedars, Huntington, and Children’s.
  4. Great question, and I’m sure they’ll answer that better during orientation (which I might drop in on ? ) but from what I remember atleast for our cohort, our clinicals were always different sites each semester (rarely the same). You’re a class of 30 and each site can mostly only take 10, so you’re going to divide your class into three groups each time (which you as a class decides on, not --------------------). In addition, you gradually carry on more clinicals a week- Summer is 1 clinical a week, fall is 2, Spring is 3 etc. Some of our sites included Kaiser (Woodland Hills, Baldwin Park), LAC USC (if you want trauma, this is the place for you), Cedars Sinai, Keck USC, Gateways, BHC Alhambra, Huntington Hospital, Children’s Hospital LA, Valley Presbyterian, Keck Verdugo Hills, and Pasadena Health Dept. So to answer your question on where to live- well it’s hard to know that now since you don’t know where your clinicals are (but when you’re deciding as a class on how to divide your groups, you can always mention that you want a clinical site in proximity to where you live. People may prioritize location sometimes and that’s okay). And clinicals start right when you start the program, so get those health paperwork items ASAP so that everything goes smoothly ?
  5. That’s just a disclaimer, mostly referring to hospitals having the right to not accept students for clinicals due to unique circumstances such as a pandemic. Our cohort (#16) was the first to experience this - even with 5 months left of the program at the time. Most of our promised preceptorship connections at different sites fell through, therefore we were told that there was the possibility of a delayed graduation date. Thankfully, the faculty in your program work hard at not letting that happen (and yes our class graduated on time, even in the midst of the surge). So my advice for you now is to not worry about those details and trust that the school has your back. You’re not the only class they’re taking care of as there are the traditional BSN, bridge, and NP students. Focus on the fact that y’all are about to be new nursing students yay! Congratulations to the incoming cohort 18 ?
  6. If you remember putting your home phone on your app (in addition to your cell phone) check that as well. I missed my phone call because she called my house. She didn’t leave a voicemail either, so if you miss it, check your emails ? (I’m from 2 cohorts ago)
  7. Practice answering typical interview questions: tell me about yourself, how did you get into nursing, what makes a good nurse, how would your colleagues describe you, strengths and weaknesses. You may get asked a behavioral question or two. Stay away from stereotypical answers - meaning draw from your own unique experience and background. It’s a second degree program, the more confidence you exude in talking about how different you are and what transferable skills you can bring to the world of nursing, the better ?
  8. The current application cycle opened earlier this month. Has anyone heard back from them for an interview? I applied to float pool.
  9. Good luck to all you potential members of the ABSN cohort 18! I'm from cohort 16 ? Ya'll got this.
  10. Don’t ever wait for County to contact you first. Always be proactive. Let them know you passed the test with X score and would like to interview for open positions. I interviewed for Harbor and got offered a position on the spot. I also am waiting to hear back from LACUSC. County is notorious for taking a long time on everything. So in terms of a start date for me, who knows! Gluck! Message me directly if you have any questions ?
  11. Hi! On the same boat as those who have not received an invite to interview. I’m confused as well since I felt really good about my application and thought I’d have a shot. My status still says under consideration as of the 17th. Did anyone here actually call or contact HR or someone to follow up with their application? Just curious.
  12. Mine still says In Review (with a modified date of 12/18). I know some of those who got an offer have until Monday to accept or turn down their offer so maaaaaaybe there’s still a chance for whoever’s on the same boat, though my hopes aren’t that high tbh. Congrats to those who got in ?
  13. Just going to leave this here for future applicants for the next cycles but: apparently the job posted around 2am and closed around 11am.
  14. Yes they’ve held interviews since last week, but they’re starting with internal applicants and Huntington has a lot of Student Nurse Interns / Residents who have been interviewing. Some have been offered already. And I’d say the virtual interview was about 15-20 mins ?
