CSULA's ABSN program Summer 2019

Published

Hello there!

I would love to start a thread of those applying for CSULA's ABSN program for summer 2019. I was hoping we could give each other some support and hopefully get to know each other a bit before starting school! I'm a little worried as I hear that the program is super competitive and I don't have many volunteer hours or experience. Is this a deciding factor in the decision process?

Hey! I think I am going to apply, but I still need to take the TEAS. Have you taken it?

I'm applying! Getting all my stuff together now- letters, grades, essay, etc. Where else is everyone applying? This is my second choice- UCLA MECN is my first choice, then CSULB third. That's it, hope I get into one of them!

Hey everyone! Just finished submitting my apps for my top 3 programs: CSULA, CSUF, and CSUSM (in that order). It doesn't look like many people have posted to this thread, but maybe it's due to the site maintenance that has been going on. I'm feeling pretty good about my apps, but the waiting is going to be killer haha. Good luck to you guys ?

Hello everyone! I also applied to CSULA for this cycle and dropped off my packet on January 10. Does anyone know if we are supposed to receive some type of email confirmation that our application was received? I don't think Dr. Hinoki was there the day I dropped it off but some guy said he put it in the stack of applications...

Forgive me, I dropped it off January 4th*

I just got an email today saying my application has been received and is complete (upon first pass). I mailed it and it got there January 10!

Woah, that was quick! I’m still waiting on my email.

Hi everyone!

I sent my application in on the last day (January 10th). I just finished my prereqs and took the TEAS in late December. I did receive a confirmation email saying that my application was complete on Wednesday, January 16th.

Does anyone want to share their prereq/TEAS scores? I know this program is super competitive. Good luck to all!!

BTW, this school and CSUN ABSN are my top choices. Other schools that I will be applying to are Valley, Pierce, and maybe COC.

Hi All,

I submitted shortly before deadline and got confirmation today that my application is complete.

@Smiles_34, CNA, my TEAs overall score was 96% correct, 99th percentile (national). My undergrad GPA was 3.25. Science pre-reqs 4.0. I have no professional experience in healthcare, just about 200hrs bedside volunteering (hospice.) What about you?

@RNtobe26, you mentioned CSULB. Do they have an ABSN? I thought they did not.

Regarding CSULA, does anyone know how the interview is structured? I heard about a writing sample. How long is that? 30 minutes? Is there a group interview or just individual? Any info/thoughts would be hugely appreciated!

@Mushkiss93, hey friend. Thanks for starting this thread. This is a nerve-wracking experience for me just waiting, as it probably is for so many other bystanders at this time. It seems like from past years' posts that experience does factor in heavily to their choice of candidates. But it sounds like you have some which is better than those who don't have any at all!

Like E.R Silverlake, I submitted my application really close to the deadline (the 9th)and received an email confirmation today that my application has been processed and is complete. Crossing my fingers for that interview invitation!!

Since we're sharing stats...

I had a really rocky start into university (UCSD) straight out of H.S. and was academically dismissed under provisional status. I ended up finishing my degree in Alabama with an institutional GPA of 3.63.

My overall GPA is a 3.25, my prereq GPA a 4.00, and my last 60 units a 3.92. I took the TEAS in December and scored in the 99th percentile in all categories, save for reading (95th). I've worked as a psychiatric CNA in an intensive care unit at a local hospital and as a K-12/transitional CNA for special-needs students in the greater Los Angeles Area for the past 2 years. Also, I'm a student anatomy instructor at my college, so I'm hoping that factors into the decision making.

Wishing you guys all the best and looking forward to learning/working with you!
