Hi all!
I just wanted to create this forum for students who are applying to CSULA Fall 2021 for the BSN Nursing track in case we had questions for each other, wanted to share thoughts, stats and to support each other through this journey.
I was wondering if anyone has applied and knew if CSULA requires verification for volunteer hours in their NursingCAS application portion? Also, will they accept any amount of volunteer hours under 50? I know you can add a document. Thank you!

Hi Can you describe your schedule is for the first semester including classes, clinicals, work, studyin etc? Also what's the average grades/GPA for current nursing students? Where do you do your clinicals?

Same here! How long as it been since you submitted your app? Maybe after 5-7 days it will be available since we have to wait for CSULA to email us saying they received our applications. My only guess is maybe will open after this deadline..

First semester is Fundamentals of Nursing Lecture, Fundamentals of Nursing Clinical, Health Assessment Lecture, Health Assessment Lab, and I’m also taking an upper division GE which is Sociology of Raceðnicity. My clinicals are once a week. Mine is on Tuesday from 6am-2pm, but some people stay til 4pm depending on the Professor. HA lecture and funds lecture on Wednesday. The zoom meetings are supposed to last 3 hours but they never do, they are always shorter. The lectures are also not even every single week, they are usually every other week or every 2-3 weeks. My HA lab is on Monday and we only have zoom meetings like once a month LOL. My schedule is very self paced. I enjoy it, but many hate it LOL.

Also, I don’t know about the average GPA, but mine and many of the people I know in the program had 4.0’s. The lowest GPA I know of who is in the program was a 3.75, but that is relatively rare and he applied several times before getting accepted. I do my clinicals at Adventist Health Memorial Hospital. Because of covid, that is basically the only hospital we do clinical’s at besides Whittier Hospital

TYSM for your response! Any advice on how to to understand and actually learn/study the material? Are your grades only based on exams?

Clinical: You mainly shadow a working nurse all day. My teacher is so chill, but I know some of the teachers are not. Work load: 5 care plans (some classes did more depending on the teacher), 3-4 easy assignments, attendance (obviously), 5 practicums, one 6-8 pages essay. No exams.
Funds lecture: We all have the same Professor for this class. She basically wants you to read 150 pages in 1 week for a 10 question quiz and then like 300 pages for a 50 question exam. She hardly does lectures, and when she does, they are useless. The way I study for this class is by watching lots of lectures on Youtube on the chapter/topic we are learning. I also review practice exams on quizlet about the topic. I used to read all the time but it took up so much of my life LOL. I hope you guys get a better Professor for this class. Workload: 4 midterms, 1 final, 14 quizzes, 8 discussions, and 2 NCLEX practice ATI exams.
HA lab: You mainly write SOAP notes and make videos. Thankfully I have a patient boyfriend which makes it so much easier to make videos. I honestly don’t know what I would do without him because it would be really hard to find someone willing to practice vital signs and physical assessments over and over LOL. Workload: 24 soap notes, 1 mini mental health exam, 1 diet recall, 1 genogram, 1 vital signs video, 2 physical assessment videos. No exams.
HA lecture: We all have the same Professor for this class. The professor for this class does lectures almost every week for 1-2 hours. I find them very helpful. She also records the videos and posts on canvas. I watch the videos on double speed over and over until the info sticks. Workload: 2 midterms, 1 final, 12 discussions.
We also need to take 3 upper division GE courses at some point during our program. I decided to take 1 now to get it over with. I’m taking Sociology of race and ethnicity but there are tons of options to choose from for GE’s.
Hi! I am a pre-nursing student and I am planning to apply. I have a GPA of 3.7 , TEAS score of 67% and I am worried that I might not get into the program. For those admitted to the csula nursing program right now, what was your GPA and TEAS core when you applied? I'm thinking if I should apply to other nursing programs if my GPA and TEAS score is not competitive enough.

Yes I did have to choose a major. I believe it is the one you stated because “basic” means someone who doesn’t have an ADN yet, and (Pre major) means someone who doesn’t have a degree yet (in anything) yet. So yes, I believe that’s the correct major to choose LOL.
