Hello,
Has anyone else submitted an application for CSULA ELMN program for summer 2010? When the information was posted in December there was only a window of a few weeks to send in the application and materials. I haven't gotten a confirmation or heard anything back from the admissions office yet. I am hoping this thread can be a place we all share information about when we get interviews or hear anything about acceptances. So, please feel free to post if you applied or hear anything!
Yeah I'm still out there for CSULB too! Its so incredibly late it seems, even for the fact that its just a TEAS and GPA calculation. They spent March doing interviews for their 100 spots for their BSN program. So the ELMSN won't find out until the middle of May, totally after the May 1st orientation at CSULA. I really love CSULA too, I just feel so weird about the whole thing but I guess its just how it is. At least I know I am not the only one in this position :)
Given the difficult nature of this decision, how many of you have made mental pros and cons lists? I only applied to CSULA and CSUN and initially had my heart set on LA, then wavered and convinced myself Northridge was more practical, but ultimately I've decided on CSULA based on my list of pros and cons:
Pros
+ closer to my home
+ clinicals are around LA vs. the valley/Ventura Co.
+ quarter system (semesters drag on and on for me)
+ allows you to work if you so wish (CSUN made us sign a promise to not work), though they don't recommend more than 20 hours a week (still good to do something to make some spending money)
+ has the higher degree that I ultimately want - heck, even if we don't get to use it right away, we won't be in application limbo yet again after a BSN
Cons
- more expensive
- no terminal BSN that I know of, so if something goes awry during the program, you could be left with an RN and no degree until you complete the Masters
- significantly longer (the coordinator told me it was 2 or 3 years on top of the 15 month prelicensure part)
I guess I'm a fan of the convenience. It also helps that a bunch of my coworkers are off to med school and everyone seems to be taking on some debt for their grad studies. I, luckily, have already paid off my undergrad loans, and I hope to qualify for some scholarships throughout the program, so I'm hoping to minimize the cost as much as possible. And, I feel like I'm not getting any younger and might as well pursue an advanced degree while I still have the time and energy.
Sorry for the long post - I like to get my thoughts down on paper, so to speak. :-P
oh wow, she's been sending out acceptance letters already?! Congrats guys!! I heard everyone who applied had stellar applications and were very bright, so i'm sure you guys will be amazing nurses!! good luck =)
I still haven't received a notice, so i'm assuming it won't be good news come 4/2.
I was really hoping to start this year.. boooo...
Does anybody know if shes done notifying the accepted group?

Ya, I got an acceptance letter last week. Does anyone know how the tuition payments are scheduled and does anyone plan on applying to the ELMSN at CSULB? I really like both these programs, but CSULB will be nearly 15,000 cheaper I think-their application period is just so much later!
