Hello,
Has anyone else submitted an application for CSULA ELMN program for summer 2010? When the information was posted in December there was only a window of a few weeks to send in the application and materials. I haven't gotten a confirmation or heard anything back from the admissions office yet. I am hoping this thread can be a place we all share information about when we get interviews or hear anything about acceptances. So, please feel free to post if you applied or hear anything!
Well if CSUN continues to still be 15,000 even this next year, then that shows it might not be all the schools. I feel like there is no way to tell until around May/June when the numbers have to be set for when financial aid information for the next year is released. I have been trying to find differences between schools if by chance I have to choose and now more than ever I think it may come down to financial reasons. I thought I wouldn't have this problem by avoiding private schools, but its still all about the money
There are definitely reasons for doing the shorter ABSN programs, a lot of people are big fans of them. But for me it comes down to the fact that I worked hard to get a bachelors, I really like the idea of a masters and the direct-entry NP. I guess I don't like the idea of having to apply all over again after I work for a while as an RN after doing an ABSN program, being in a constant state of applications and waiting is no fun, it kinda tears me down a bit. It is the same amount of time spent exactly to get to the end destination so its just personal preference basically, which choice makes you feel better...or wherever you get in!
Oh decisions, goodluck for now everyone!!!
Hey guys,
I've applied for the summer 2010 cohort and received a call today for an interview. I haven't received a letter from the program coordinator about my application being complete. Probably because I still have Life Span Developmental Psychology course pending. Has anyone had their interview already?
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know that I met with the program coordinator yesterday and she is super nice and does everything to make you feel comfortable during the interview. It was overall pretty short and as long as you know why you want to go into nursing, how your experiences will help you with that goal, and how you function in a group, you will be fine!
Also, anyone PMing me for extra info, I'm not ignoring you! I just don't have 15 posts yet, so I can't respond.
:) :) :)
Thanks for sharing that with us!
I'm curious, what are everyone's experiences and background?
I graduated from uci with a degree in biological sciences. I've worked at a biotech company for 2 years and for the past 2 years I've been working as a clinical research coordinator at cedars Sinai medical center. I see patients everyday for my research study and that experience has been my greatest motivation to pursue nursing. Hopefully it's enough to get in the program!

Yep - that does make me wonder if anyone was turned off from applying.
I also applied to the ABSN program at CSUN and their FAQS state: "47) What is the cost of the program?
The cost of the program is roughly $15,000 (excluding housing, books, and supplies), although this amount is subject
to change. Please visit http://www-admn.csun.edu/ucs/fall_2009_feepay.htm#graduate for tuition fees."
So price is also definitely a consideration. I sometimes wonder if it would be more prudent to do the shorter, cheaper program, work for a few years as an RN and then go back for a masters with the facility providing some tuition reimbursement. Still, CSULA's program is tempting in that it takes you to your end-goal in a relatively short amount of time. Having read other threads, though, I know that a lot of the graduates don't work as NPs right away. So all in all, it may take the same amount of time to start working as an NP whether you do a BSN and work and then get a masters, or get the masters in three years, but work as an RN after graduation to gain more experience before getting the NP job.
