Hello, I'm making this thread for everyone thinking of applying and applying to CSUB's nursing program for the Fall 2014! This is the month for transfers (like me) to submit the CSU Mentor app. The nursing app is already posted on the college's website!
Any nursing hopefuls for fall 2014?
I feel for you we are in the same boat! I really hope I get inI will be crushed if I don't! I would love those 5 points too and the points for living in the area haha.
But I still need to get accepted into the school too. They needed my spring grades in order to accept me.
How many students will be selected?
Based on the information from their site:
Frequently Asked Questions (Pre-Admission) | California State University, Bakersfield
it looks like they will be accepting around 60 students.
Average Scores:
Prereq GPA, Math/Science GPA, and TEAS V

That's awesome! One of the schools I got accepted to (Los Angeles County) also has an ADN-BSN collaboration program with CSULA. I can start working on my BSN by taking some of the classes required for the BSN during the summers while I'm attending L.A County and then finish the last year of my BSN at CSULA after I graduate from County and pass the NCLEX! Attending County and getting my BSN at CSULA would also take three years, which is definitely a plus.Do you know anyone who attends CSUB or would you move out to Bakersfield not knowing anyone, like myself? LOL
Oh very nice! It's good to know we have somewhere to go if all else fails:) That's very cool the ADN-BSN at CSULA, I know they work with great hospitals as I am sure LA County does too of course! I don't know anyone who attends CSUB but my boyfriends grandpa lives out there so he's the only person I would know lol. Basically going out there not knowing. I've been out there a couple of times, it's not too bad. It's a decent suburb area :)
Also, do you know how the alternates work at CSUB? Because you know, they may accept 60 people but if lets say 15 decided to go with another school, do they replace off of a list ? I'm just getting anxious with next week being THE WEEK that we may begin to hear back from them. Make sure you all update us when you get in
Overall the Bakersfield area is nice. It's a nice community, although there are some areas that aren't the greatest but you'll find that everywhere. The only downsides to living here are the heat (right now it's 102), the air quality, and there's really not a lot to do here. We really don't have a lot of big attractions but most things like the beach or the mountains are only 1-2 hours away. It's easy to do a day trip just to get out of town if you feel like it. From what I've heard the cost of living is pretty inexpensive compared to other areas in California. I guess that can be said about most of the valley though. I lived in Chico for a couple of years and rent wasn't horrible there either. The area around the CSUB campus is nice and there are at least 3 apartment complexes that I can think of within walking distance to campus. I think the prices at those complexes is somewhere around 1000-1200 for a 2 bedroom? But don't quote me on that. haha CSUB is a good school too. It's not the biggest campus and it's a commuter school but I've found that the professors and advisors are nice and want to help. The nursing program has a good reputation locally as well. So overall I guess my point is that Bakersfield really isn't a bad place to live. The only things I don't like are what I already mentioned about the heat and air quality. I hope that I was able answer some of your questions. :)
Tomorrow is (hopefully) the day! I'm so nervous….haha

Awww, it's nice that you at least know someone out there, even if it's just your bf's grandpa!
Yes, I believe that is how it works. They send out acceptence emails to the first 55-60 students and they have until a certain date that they have to reply stating that they want to attend CSUB's program. If they do not reply within the certain deadline, then their seat goes to the next candidate. If I remember correctly, they will keep going down the list until all seats have been filled, hence, why those on the waitlist might hear until late August (like the application states).... If I'm wrong, someone please feel to correct me!
LOL I don't know if I'll get in and if I do, I'm not sure if I'm going to attend anymore due to $$$. All I can say is don't lose hope! The nice thing about hearing till July is that many people will probably say no to CSUB because they have already been accepted to other nursing programs and have probably already started paying for things that their certain program requires.
At least know that if you don't get into CSUB, you still have Mount St. Mary's! :)

Thank you for the information.
I guess not having a lot to do is not a big deal since studying probably takes up most of everyone's time!
I hope that we all hear back tomorrow so that we can get some peace and so that those planning to attend can begin making decisions when it comes to living arrangements, work, and such!
I honestly don't know of any student pages like that. There probably are some but I haven't had a need so I haven't looked in to it. I'm sure if you contact the housing office they might be able to help you. Sorry I can't help more on that front. Craigslist is good. I've found that Trulia is really helpful too.

Thank you! Yes I mean I've been reading previous posts and it seems like that's how it will go down, but I couldn't find it in the FAQ's at CSUB's page so I was just curious. And yes you are right, it's more comforting to know atleast one person in the Bakersfield area just in case
Also, I'm sorry to hear that. That's how I feel about MSMC because it's going to have to be paid with student loans basically so I'll be in debt for a long time. Versus Bakersfield i have financial aid like grants and such. Did you try financial aid? Well, whatever the case may be, I wish you the best and hope everything works out :)
And you're right, most people have already gotten accepted to other places and have most likely secured their spot and all that so that does help make their decision easier since they have already been accepted. I know I placed my deposit on MSMC, but I would just lose the money if I get accepted. Thanks for giving me a little extra hope today @allaboutkitties. You are so kind to respond, and I wish you the best!
Now, let JULY begin and may the odds be ever in our favor! Good Luck everyone! Keep us all updated
Is the easiest way to find an apartment on craigslist? Also, how would I find a roommate? Are there any student Facebook pages where students can find roommates?
The way I've been finding apartments is through google maps actually. What I did was type in the school name then some search bar pops up asking to search around that area and I typed in apartments and got a lot of results. As for the roommates, I don't know how to help with that part. I know that for the previous Cohort of CSUB nursing students made their own Facebook group page, so that might be a good idea for this cohort once everyone has been accepted, create a page and talk about housing there. That's what I would recommend. Hope that's helpful! Wish you Luck :)
