CSU Stanislaus Spring 2011 hopefuls?

Published

Just wondering if there are any other CSU Stanislaus spring 2011Pre-Licensure BSN hopefuls out there? Waiting for mid-December.... I thought it would be neat to chat and get an idea of how many of us there might be... I have not found anyone yet...

Invest in a good steth...you'll appreciate it!!! Especially to the fact that the better it is, the more your gonna hear things, and you do have checkoffs on skills and if you cant hear.....bad grade. As far as loans... they give you an extension till you get your loans... they are really good about that actually. It all comes together... best advice, start all your stuff you can now.. CPR, shots, etc. Make sure if you do the CPR class its for healthcare workers, otherwise they wont accept it. I'll be at orientation tomorrow so I'm sure I'll meet you guys!

Chessie and I both didnt buy the book for med term they requested and we did great... as long as you study some form of med book youll be good to go!

I got student loans. I was offered both subsidized and unsubsidized... I only opted to go with only the subsidized because its a bigger loan and you dont have to worry about interest charges till after you graduate. Unlike the subsidized, the UNsubsidized is smaller and you will begin to rack up interest on it as soon as you get it.

If you log into your my.csustan.edu and go to the middle left, you will see that it says "Account Inquiry" or "financial Aid"... look around and it will show you the awards from financial aid that you received. Also, it shows you by semester what you will be receiving but always remember to subtract the tuition or you might have an unpleasant surprise when you end up 2,786 dollars shorter than what you thought you'd get..LOL..

Hope this helps..

PS: the professor never replied to my health insurance and CPR questions. Hopefully at the Orientation you got all your answers...

How was orientation for all of you who went??? I was out of town so i could not be there with Courtney...

Orientation went well, it was neat to listen to Courtney and all the other students advice. I actually decided to quit my job after orientation, it just sounded like it might be a lot to take on working almost full time. I figured out most of the loans, I am a little frustrated though because I need a premission number for one of the Nursing classes and I am only enrolled in 11 units, that class will make it 14 units. I talked to Lori and she said to email the teacher, which I did and I have not gotten a response back yet, so as a result I wasnt registered in enough classes to make full time (I am taking an extra GE class) and my pell grant was reduced by $700, which sucks because that could have been books! I am a little frustrated with the whole financial aid thing, I dont think they can go back and increase my pell grant once its been disbursed just because I couldnt get a permission number in time. Today was supposed to be the disbursement day, but of course, Stan State scheduled something important to happen on a holiday. Sorry, this is so frustrating, i am hoping things start to go smoother!

Anyways, thanks to all you guys for all your info, it has been such a help!

Cdg 209, I have the same feeling with you about financial aid. I never get financial acid in JC, but I did apply it. I will go to financial aid office to find out whether I will get some help or not. I like all the information I have gained in the orientation. Courtney and other nursing students gave lots of valuable information. I have finished CPR training already. It is pretty stressful because I also worry about whether I should quit my job or not, and how many classes I should take... I know I will be ready by the end of January.

Do you have a date to sign up for the Critical thinking test?

They already disbursed so I will probaby just drop my extra class since the full time wont matter anymore, oh well. I was in the nursing department last week on Wednesday and their was still not a sign up sheet, I am going to call about it this week. let me know if you hear before hand.

@cdg209- financial aid at first might be a pain, but they will work with you. During the semester they might fix your pell grant situation, because as a nursing student you are pretty much full time except for 1 unit. Me and Courtney opted for a 1 unit class this first semester to see how things would go, but others took the DNA code of life class and other 3 unit courses. I would go talk t them, they are very nice.

As far as the disburment, the government gives the school the money on the 17th, and then the school treasurer cuts out the checks usually at the end of the week. I hate how they put the 17th because it gives me false hope! lol... annoying!

How's studying for the Med Term going?

Hope you guys aren't stressing!

Chessie

Thanks Chessie , so you think they will have the direct deposits done on Friday maybe? This stinks because I needed the money to go pay for the drug test, background check, and fingerprints, you know, all that good stuff! I was hoping to have my loans sooner since we have to get everything done by the start of the semester, how understanding are they with that stuff? I havent even started studying for the med term, I just downloaded a nookbook yesterday though so I can start studying this weekend. Thank God for leftover christmas gift cards! LOL. In all honesty, I am getting a bit nervous about starting school. By the way, do you guys know if the box of books you can buy in the bookstore has all of the books or just for NURS 2850? Did you buy them at the school or did you get them online? Thanks again for all your help!

I went to the bookstore, and the package of four books is for NURS 2850 only. We have to get other books for other classes. If you want to buy it online, you can go the CSU Stan online bookstore to find out the ISBN, then you can buy it online. I compared the price online and bookstore, and there is no big differences. I decide to buy it at bookstore.

I have no idea how they will test the medical terminology, do we have to know the spelling?

Hello, I'm a 4th semester csu stan student nurse.

About your financial aid problems... yeah having 11 units isn't full-time. that's also our problem in 4th semester. good thing we found a PSYC class. it's only 1 unit. it's Child Abuse and Neglect class.

If you ask the nursing department for a letter saying that you're a full-time student, you can use that for your health insurance, but not for financial aid.

good luck to you all! let me know if you have questions :)

when we had ours, it was multiple choice. Some of the choices will have different spellings of the correct word, so you definitely have to know the spelling.

By the way, I got the enrollment form from department. Everything is fine now. I guess we can start the immunization now. I was wondering how we can apply the nursing scholarships.

Nursing scholarships are also available from the university's scholarship application.

http://www.csustan.edu/financialaid/scholarships/ If you start the application here and answer the questions, they will give you a list of the possible scholarships you can get.
