Just wondering if there are any other CSU Stanislaus spring 2011Pre-Licensure BSN hopefuls out there? Waiting for mid-December.... I thought it would be neat to chat and get an idea of how many of us there might be... I have not found anyone yet...
The scholarship I got wont be given again... I got really lucky. If you call your doctor, or have your immunization record that'll steer you the right way. I had to get everything because I had no documentation of any vaccines... Id start asap.. def get your T-dap. its your tetorifice with dipertheria..you need that for sure. and you def have to get a TB skin test... that one is the most annoying cause its a two week process... sooner the better! And you'll need to get your CPR certification.. but you need to make sure its for health care workers... there are two different kinds.
I'm just paying it forward :) Luckily I had someone who helped me out on this website so I thought I'd keep it going :)
Thank you so much for your info Courtney.. it really is great to be able to get some questions answered by students already in the program, and I appreciate your time, I am sure you are super busy with the program. I know someone who works at the DMC foundation and she is going to try to help me get some info about possible scholarships. By the way, how did you brush up on your medical terminology, I figured I would just buy a book and study over the winter break, any suggestions! I am so excited still, this is so surreal, I still dont believe it.
Aw, no problem.. Im glad you appreciate it! Yah finals are going on right now this is my scapegoat haha. Thankfully Ill be done on Wednesday and CANT wait for the break! Yes, you'll have a med term test the second day of school... or around that time. I'd get the book they rec. They give it to you at orientation I think, (the name) I'll try and find out what it is. I just brought a med term made easy book but I ended up studying a lot more than I needed to know. So yah, id for sure get the book they tell you to. I remember I studied like crazy... but if there is any advice i'd give you... it would be to RELAXXXXX and enjoy your winter break while you have it :) Do nothing. I wish I could do that right now :)
I will definately take your advice, I want to get ready for the next 3 years... I went to the New Student Orientation for transfer students today, but we didnt learn much nursing wise. The advisor just went over pre-reqs and said we didnt really have to stay if we had already been accpeted into the program. I know we will learn more at the Nursing Program Orientation. I am totally blown away by the campus, beautiful and the people are so different than at a JC, I an really looking forward to it all. I almost went to pay a visit to the nursing department but I wasn't sure if they would think I was weird if I just popped in and acte dlike I was in the club already, lol.
the new student orientation was pointless...much better at the nursing one. You can totally stop by and peep your head in. were going through finals though so no one is really there, were kind of all over the place or in the hospital. I'll for sure see you at the Nursing orientation though!

Did you find out the name of the Medical Terminology book? I just got a book from Barns, I am planing to study after Christmas. How is your holiday going so far? I hope to meet you before the orientation if you have some time for me. I have so many questions. I wish you all have wonderful holiday! I can't wait to meet you!
Merry Christmas!
Hey guys, Congrats on everyone who got in!
My name is Chessie and I am currently in the program as well. Me and Courtney are in the same class and ironically met through this forum doing the same things you guys are with all the exact questions! :)
I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have (even though Courtney got you through most of the hardest part- Waiting for the acceptance letter!!)
Also, @mrt5000- i didnt buy the terminology book. However, a lot of people just purchased the flashcards.. its seriously a very straight forward test.. you can probably go on flashcardexchange.com and study the terminology lists they have there...
Don't stress.. the worst is OVER! Now get all of your immunizations, CPR, etc.. out of the way. Definitely save up for books.. First semester ~$800... 2nd semester so far ~$ 600...Lori is hilarious and very helpful.. I probably called her over 100 times asking about the program and when we would find out... Any questions.. call her!
Any other questions me and Courtney would be happy to answer.. See you guys in the Orientation!
Chessie
Hello chessie, i will be attending the orientation on the tenth, but I am trying to get a headstart on immunization shots, CPR class, textbooks and such. I was going to take a CPR class this weekend, but I wasn't sure if CSUS provides a class. I was hoping they would since MJC provides the CPR class free to their students. Also, I currently don't have health insurance---do you have any advice?
hmm...I didnt get to go to the orientation, but i was told that those students got a great deal from one of the professors.. I believe either for free or 3 bucks.. something like that...I do not know if they will give CPR class again. As far as health insurance goes, i honestly don't have a clue...I know the school offers health insurance to students but im not sure if that applies to the health insurance the program wants. I already emailed someone about both of your questions and will get back to you ASAP! :) sorry.. that was not very helpful!
Wow. The thread has grown! Lol. I am kind of excited about orientation on Monday, do I need to be prepared for anything in particulae? Any tests or anything? What are we going to do all day?
I was also curious to those of you who got student loans, did you really get the entire amount on the scheduled disbursement day? I am worried about being able to afford everything when its due. Will you guys be at orientation too or is it just new students? Also, my parents want to buy me a stethoscope but I am not sure which one to get, I had a cheap one before for my CNA training but I could never hear very well with it.

Thanks! Do you know what scholarship did you get and where to apply? I need to do lots of research after all finals. I am so appreciate that you already know all those steps, and it is nice of you to share those with us! Thank you so much!
I want to start the immunizations, but don't what I should be done. I think I need to get a list about the immunization.
