  1. Thanks Chessie , so you think they will have the direct deposits done on Friday maybe? This stinks because I needed the money to go pay for the drug test, background check, and fingerprints, you know, all that good stuff! I was hoping to have my loans sooner since we have to get everything done by the start of the semester, how understanding are they with that stuff? I havent even started studying for the med term, I just downloaded a nookbook yesterday though so I can start studying this weekend. Thank God for leftover christmas gift cards! LOL. In all honesty, I am getting a bit nervous about starting school. By the way, do you guys know if the box of books you can buy in the bookstore has all of the books or just for NURS 2850? Did you buy them at the school or did you get them online? Thanks again for all your help!
  2. They already disbursed so I will probaby just drop my extra class since the full time wont matter anymore, oh well. I was in the nursing department last week on Wednesday and their was still not a sign up sheet, I am going to call about it this week. let me know if you hear before hand.
  3. Orientation went well, it was neat to listen to Courtney and all the other students advice. I actually decided to quit my job after orientation, it just sounded like it might be a lot to take on working almost full time. I figured out most of the loans, I am a little frustrated though because I need a premission number for one of the Nursing classes and I am only enrolled in 11 units, that class will make it 14 units. I talked to Lori and she said to email the teacher, which I did and I have not gotten a response back yet, so as a result I wasnt registered in enough classes to make full time (I am taking an extra GE class) and my pell grant was reduced by $700, which sucks because that could have been books! I am a little frustrated with the whole financial aid thing, I dont think they can go back and increase my pell grant once its been disbursed just because I couldnt get a permission number in time. Today was supposed to be the disbursement day, but of course, Stan State scheduled something important to happen on a holiday. Sorry, this is so frustrating, i am hoping things start to go smoother! Anyways, thanks to all you guys for all your info, it has been such a help!
  4. Wow. The thread has grown! Lol. I am kind of excited about orientation on Monday, do I need to be prepared for anything in particulae? Any tests or anything? What are we going to do all day? I was also curious to those of you who got student loans, did you really get the entire amount on the scheduled disbursement day? I am worried about being able to afford everything when its due. Will you guys be at orientation too or is it just new students? Also, my parents want to buy me a stethoscope but I am not sure which one to get, I had a cheap one before for my CNA training but I could never hear very well with it.
  5. I tried getting into MJc and gave up with the first rejection letter, I decided to go for Stan State and I actually got in for Spring 2011 on my first try. I had the 37 General ed requirements to transfer and then I just ha dto take Statistics and Organic CHem in addition to thr MJC pre-requisites. I never saw a counselor once, but I know it may have been earier had I gone to see one. They have nursing program info sessions every month at Stan State and they give out a lot of info. They list all of the info on their website too.
  6. I will definately take your advice, I want to get ready for the next 3 years... I went to the New Student Orientation for transfer students today, but we didnt learn much nursing wise. The advisor just went over pre-reqs and said we didnt really have to stay if we had already been accpeted into the program. I know we will learn more at the Nursing Program Orientation. I am totally blown away by the campus, beautiful and the people are so different than at a JC, I an really looking forward to it all. I almost went to pay a visit to the nursing department but I wasn't sure if they would think I was weird if I just popped in and acte dlike I was in the club already, lol.
  7. @mrt5000 I do go to MJC but I also take classes at Columbia. Right now I am taking Biochem, Stats, and Advanced Literature and Composition. I am only taking a music class at MJC right now. Finals week to go, then we are nursing students.
  8. Thank you so much for your info Courtney.. it really is great to be able to get some questions answered by students already in the program, and I appreciate your time, I am sure you are super busy with the program. I know someone who works at the DMC foundation and she is going to try to help me get some info about possible scholarships. By the way, how did you brush up on your medical terminology, I figured I would just buy a book and study over the winter break, any suggestions! I am so excited still, this is so surreal, I still dont believe it.
  9. I got in too! I can't even believe it, I am so excited! About the enrollment form, I got an e-mail this morning with the form attached. Thanks for the info Courtney. BY the way, I am guessing they will give us all the details at orientation, but I was curious as to if that will still give us time to get all the immunizations done... should I have started them already?
  10. Hey Courtney, By the way, do you know if the info sessions are required? The last one is on Wednesday and I can't make it because I have an exam at 9:30 at MJC, did you ever go to one?
  11. I figured they wouldnt be sending them out early. Sounds like the schedule is pretty manageable. And number 50 made it in... wow! Sounds like I may have a chance. Thanks so much for your info... maybe we will see each other around next year!
  12. Wow.. really? Did you call them? I thought they werent sending them out till mid-December? It would be awesome if they sent them out early!!
  13. Well, either way I can't get wait to get started, even if it takes me a few tries to get in... That is awesome that you got the DMC scholarship! I have started looking at different scholarships in case I do get in, and I am trying to save up what I can for books and stuff. I figure they probably wont start mailing out letters until the promised date, Decemeber 15th, let us know if you hear otherwise... :-). By the way, what is your schedule like? It is pretty much a full-time thing?
  14. Hi Courtney! I totally recognize your name, I was following the other Stan State and MJC threads... I am a little confused about the point system, my gpa from classes a few years ago (like speech comm and english) are low, so my overall non-science gpa is really low, a 3.0. I have worked so hard the past few years though, Im a single mom and I work full time and take about 16-17 units a semester and have gotten all A's and B's in the past 3 semesters.. I am so dedicated to school and I really want this. Reading your guys posts on the other threads while you were waiting to get your letters and stuff really gave me a lot of hope. How is the program? Also, I was wondering about vaccinations and stuff, If i havent started any will it be too late if I do get in?
  15. Unfortunately, I only got C's in some of my old general ed classes when I was younger and "less focused". So my gpa in non-science classes is killing me, I only count about 65-70 points right now, I know my chances aren't that great, but I am still hoping, I wish I would have done better in those non-science classes! How many points do you think you have?
