Hello,

I am new here to allnurses.com so bear with me. I was wondering if anyone applied to the absn program at CSU San Marcos for summer 2009? Have you heard anything back yet?

I live about 20 minutes from Temecula....it's not very far away from the foothills where there are lots of hiking trails. There's a desert national park that's about 45 minutes away which is gorgeous when the desert flowers are in bloom....You're about an hour away from downtown San Diego....it's got a small-town feel with big-town benefits.....Oh and another thing, Temecula is a relatively new town and a bedroom community....lotsa families....and as far as I know, there aren't any "bad" parts really....the school is located on the western side of the 15 frwy.....it's a satellite campus so it definately won't have the amenities that the main campus has....but to be honest, I've never used the library on campus, all my research has been done online....As for clinicals, you guys will be driving....I know some students that go to Riverside (about 45-50 minutes north depending on how fast u drive) for one clinical then all the way down to San Diego for another.....it's really scattered that way

I'm in the generic program at CSUSM, but I do know some ABSN people....it's a pretty intense program....Just because a class is only 2 units, it's been my experience that nursing school 2 units equals more work than most 3 or 4 unit regular college courses......Most of the people I know don't have much time for anything other than school....if you want, I can try to get the scheduled course load for you...I don't wanna discourage you guys, just give you a heads up on what to expect

Wow thanks for all of the information!

I think Temecula is going to be a nice place to study for two years. As for the clinicals... luckily I enjoy driving! I know that students in a lot of the programs up north have to drive for up to an hour for their clinicals, so I'm mentally prepaired for it (I think!)

I am pretty nervous about what to expect with the courseload. I've been reading more and more about people wishing they had an extra year to relax a bit. I know that I can handle this, but it's going to be a tough couple of years!

We set up a mentoring program (I'm actually on the committee) so that a student from the previous ABSN group mentors one of the new incoming students....so be sure to sign up for it....they'll be able to relate to your courseload a lot better than I can....and can definitely share their experiences and advice with you guys...

Hi all!

I also got accepted into the ABSN progam at Temecula! Yay! Has anyone received anything in the mail yet? I've only received the one acceptance email...

Congrats!

I called the school on Friday to ask about receiving something in the mail, and it sounds like we just show up to orientation and they give us our admission plan then... but the email says to expect something in the mail, so who knows!

Snwbdr, I'll definitely be signing up for the mentoring program :)

Thanks! Congrats to all of you too. Does anyone know why this program is 24 months long, but other accelerated programs are shorter? Like around 12-18months long? I know the CSUSM program goes through the summer, but dont know if other programs continue through the summer as well. Thanks.

Hi Snwbrd,

This mentoring program sounds amazing! I would love to participate. I was hoping they would come up with something like this cuz i would love to talk to someone who has already done the program and ask what they thought of it and see what the most difficult aspects of it were. Thank you for the info!

Gween,

Congrats on getting into Temecula!! I havent seen many 12-18 month programs... are they AA degrees perhaps? All I know is that this is an accelerated Bachelors program. If you go through the CSU system its usually 3 year+ and incredibly impacted. I knew people that were trying to get into the nursing program at the last CSU i went to and they went all 4 years taking as many pre-req classes as they could and just never got accepted into the program cuz of the impacted nature. i know with this one we do not get summers off like you said, 6 semesters of classes in a row. From what i understand they actually extended this program out to be a 2 year program because many students found that there was too much course work for the time they had to complete it.

Personally, i cant wait for the orientation! I feel like we are gonna get overloaded with info, and i could really use that right now :)

Look forward to meeting you next month!

Thanks for that info Snwbrd. I was looking to see if there was going to be some sort of info from previous graduating classes. I cant wait for the orientation. I have so many questions. Congrats to everyone that got in this year and hope to see u all there.
