CSU San Marcos ABSN Fall 2013

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi fellow pre-nursing students!

I'd like to start a thread to those applying or have already applied to the ABSN program for Fall 2013 (Temecula/San Marcos locations)

I personally have not applied yet. I still have Anatomy and Microbiology in progress this Spring semester and will be completing Physiology during Summer. I'd like to apply soon, but quite hesitant since I still have quite a number of courses IP.

I will be contacting an advisor within this week and will definitely update this thread with further information. It might be too early to say, but good luck to all of us!

I emailed my academic advisor and asked about how the fall 2013 is looking. At this time, the term has been filled. They will be admitting people for the spring 2014 in late September. A part of me is kinda sad about it but I don't think I could just pack my bags and move an hour away in less than two months. But I am sure if the opportunity were to arise, I would take it in a heartbeat but sounds like it worked out in my favor this time. I hope this does not upset anyone because I'm sure all of you wanted to find out about it soon. Let's start a spring 2014 post, I say! :D

Ohmygosh, this is so saddening! :( Is the program starting spring only gonna be in San Marcos?

Wow, that's something that I didn't want to hear. I was certain that I would be able to get my final evaluation this mid July. I usually don't like to make excuses and put the blame on others, but I seriously feel that mistakes were made at CSUSM's end. I turned in all but one of my transcripts early May while waiting for my Bio-Chem class to end, but they didn't start my evaluation until mid June. It turns out that it was because they made two application files for me, so it showed that I had no transcripts or TEAS on file, which pretty much made my application incomplete and ineligible for an initial evaluation. The possibility of starting Spring will mark my two years of being out of school and hoping to get into a nursing program. So frustrating!

Anyway, I'm in the same boat as you, ehlehna. I'm little glad that I'm going to be considered for Spring instead because I wouldn't want to move an hour or so away for two years (I live in National City). I'm so ready for a Spring forum!

That's really interesting! I just got my updated evaluation today and emailed extended learning about the enrollment status for Fall 2013 and was given the following info: "With regards to Fall 2013 admissions, our review committee is still doing rounds of admission to fill up the cohort. Therefore, you have up until the program start date to be notified of Fall 2013 admission which begins August 26, 2013."

Maybe I was given misinformation, but I wouldn't give up yet. Good luck everyone!

This gives me so much hope! Hopefully this isn't misinformation!

I hope this is not a misinformation either! It sounds promising.

Yes, San Marcos is currently for spring only. I wonder if they plan on making all of the semesters in Temecula in the next few years? I remember when they had a semester that placed people in either San Marcos or Temecula. Would have given people more opportunities to enter!

Hey everyone! :) I posted a new topic for those planning on hopefully being accepted into the spring 2014 cohort here: https://allnurses.com/california-state-nursing/csu-san-marcos-843778.html#post7428005

I just got my advisement packet in the mail today. What can I expect in the next few weeks?

Does it contain all your grades or are you in progress with some of your classes? When I applied and waited close to 8 weeks to receive my first evaluation, it contained all of my grades plus my sole class in progress (Organic Chemistry) as well as those that needed to be cleared (Statistics for mine). Then after I was done with my class (which was around end of May), San Marcos received my transcripts in the beginning of July. My CC took close to two weeks to finalize my grade which was a bit frustrating then San Marcos received my transcripts two weeks after that. I received my final evaluation with my cumulative science GPA, classes done, and the remaining classes I have to take (which is are the GE's you take in your first semester in the absn program; this was also in my first evaluation as well). From that point on, you're pretty much waiting to be admitted to the cohort for which period your evaluation is for...if there is no admittance, which they never really tell you to begin with, expect to be considered for the next cohort. Also, don't be scared to e-mail back and forth with your adviser...it is their job to answer you with any questions you have. Mine was very helpful about keeping me up to date and telling me if they received anything. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yes, my advisor has been really helpful and prompt. They have told me they're still considering applicants for Fall, but of course we can't really tell until we get our admission letters. I guess we'll see in the next few weeks.

I really do wonder if my adviser said that just because my grades weren't in the top %. Who knows really! I guess we will have to wait.
