CSU San Marcos ABSN Fall 2013

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi fellow pre-nursing students!

I'd like to start a thread to those applying or have already applied to the ABSN program for Fall 2013 (Temecula/San Marcos locations)

I personally have not applied yet. I still have Anatomy and Microbiology in progress this Spring semester and will be completing Physiology during Summer. I'd like to apply soon, but quite hesitant since I still have quite a number of courses IP.

I will be contacting an advisor within this week and will definitely update this thread with further information. It might be too early to say, but good luck to all of us!

Did anyone else here back from CSUSM? I just emailed my advisor today and she confirmed that the Fall cohort is closed, so those who've already been ranked will now be considered for Spring 2014.

laikaluna,

I didn't get considered for the fall 2013 cohort. I am pretty relieved that I'll be considered for the spring 2014 which gives us a better chance since we are done with all of our pre-requisites. I hope I get accepted before my birthday (October) so I can celebrate. Haha.

Did they send you an email stating that you specifically did not get considered for Fall? I just got this email from my advisor:

Normally, it takes 6-8 weeks to evaluate your file once we receive all the items. However, you should receive yours within the next two weeks. It is pending a second review and will be sent out shortly after.

I don't exactly know what this means now since it seems that a lot of people have already been told that the Fall 2013 cohort is now closed.

3eshaaa,

I think I was told the same thing as ehlehnah. When I requested to get an update on my Fall application, my advisor replied, "The fall cohort is full so when we begin spring admissions (in the next few weeks) our rankings will be reviewed and letters will be sent."

I'm not sure if we have the same advisor, but it seems like we're given inconsistent and misleading information for whatever reasons. It might be because my overall points is a bit lower than average. My core gpa and last 60 unit are on par with the average (maybe even slightly higher) but my TEAS was on the lower end. I asked my advisor if I should retake the TEAS, but she told me to hold off because I may be competitive enough for the Spring cohort. Whatever, I'm still gonna take the TEAS by the end of August. I don't wanna risk another chance to pass by me.

Not sure how recent this is but the statistics for the Fall 2013 cohort have been posted on the CSUSM ABSN website.

Cohort 17 - Fall 2013 (50 students)

Overall Points Average = 27 (out of 52 possible points)

Pre-Nursing Core GPA Average = 3.41

Last 60 Units GPA Average = 3.37

TEAS Composite Score Average = 84

I was going back and forth with the nursing thing because of all the constant inconsistency with everything. I think that re-doing the TEAS will definitely secure our chances of getting in. Eh, I just want to get in somewhere for nursing.

Ehlehnah,

I felt the same way! I kinda wanted to take Fall semester off, so I can backpack SE Asia before starting the program. However, I've since changed my mind because it doesn't seem practical right now. I'm definitely gonna take the TEAS late August even though I currently fit in the program's average for Fall. Like you said, i just want the assurance of having a seat for the next cohort. I might also take a CNA class and/or do a volunteer work for the mean time, so I won't feel a sitting duck (I'm currently unemployed, lol). Anyway, good luck to you! Looking forward to seeing you and other hopefuls in the Spring orientation! *crosses finger

Also, congratulations to everyone who got in the Fall cohort! I know everyone worked hard to get where they are, so you all deserve it!

I did the medical assistant class here (which only cost me 400 dollars) and I think it helps you so much with knowing how to do vitals, venipuncture, EKG, etc. I don't plan on working in the field because of such a short time that I have till possibly entering into the program.

I hate studying for the TEAS! :/ Oh! Southeast Asia! I lived there for the first part of my childhood because my dad was working as a journalist there.

That's interesting. Compared to the summer 2013 cohort, the average is a little lower. I might as well re-take the TEAS to get more points...not a fan of studying myself. Haha.

Just two weeks ago I found out that the Fall semester was closed. It was a huge let down for me, so I decided to buy the TEAS study guide in hopes of retaking it and improving my chances. Today I found out that I got admitted to the Spring cohort! What a trip! I can't imagine how anyone who got admitted felt at the time they found out, but I was beyond happy and grateful! Happy dance for days!

Hey guys, just wondering how everyone approached SOC 303. I cannot for the life of me find a community college in the area that has a course that articulates with this class. I know you can take it online during your first semester, but I'd rather take it at a community college because it will be much cheaper.

Congrats! That's sooner than most people finding out! I wish they would tell me where I'm standing without leaving me hanging. I finished all of my prerequisites and I've been waiting and waiting to be admitted for the fall. Now the spring cohort is daunting on me.

I know that in your first semester of the ABSN program, you would take that course along with the other two. You don't have to take it beforehand unless you are currently going to San Marcos for your undergrad.
