CSU San Marcos ABSN Fall 2013

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi fellow pre-nursing students!

I'd like to start a thread to those applying or have already applied to the ABSN program for Fall 2013 (Temecula/San Marcos locations)

I personally have not applied yet. I still have Anatomy and Microbiology in progress this Spring semester and will be completing Physiology during Summer. I'd like to apply soon, but quite hesitant since I still have quite a number of courses IP.

I will be contacting an advisor within this week and will definitely update this thread with further information. It might be too early to say, but good luck to all of us!

Sorry for the late reply.

The Orientation will start at 8:00 am and last until 5 pm. Long day.

Congrats! That's sooner than most people finding out! I wish they would tell me where I'm standing without leaving me hanging. I finished all of my prerequisites and I've been waiting and waiting to be admitted for the fall. Now the spring cohort is daunting on me.

Thanks! The thing is, my advisor ranked me right after the Fall cohort became full. I bet they'll be sending out the rest of the conditional acceptance letters in no time. There's a possibility that one has your name on it since it seems like we earned similar amount of points from our evaluation. It didn't help that there was a delay in your application being evaluated due to transcript issues; that's always annoying! I know the wait is unbearable (I had an OCD of checking my email and this forum all the time). Lol Hang in there!

Thank you for the reassurance! I was actually planning on applying to OT/DPT school in the mean time because I wasn't sure where I stood with nursing. Probably what happened with you will rub off on me when I am planning on retaking my GRE's and TEAS. Haha.

@laikaluna -- Just found out yesterday that I was accepted for Spring 2014 cohort too! SUPER EXCITED!!!! Congrats to you and to anyone else :) *give ourselves a pat on the back....weve worked hard to get to this point :) *

where are you from? Im in Sacramento.

I know that in your first semester of the ABSN program, you would take that course along with the other two. You don't have to take it beforehand unless you are currently going to San Marcos for your undergrad.

Sorry, the only classes we have to take as part of our graduation GE requirement for the ABSN program is BIOL323, PHIL345, and ANTH301. I didn't see SOC303. Is that a requirement for your major? I know we don't have to take it and I never had to take it when I was in my upper grad classes.

The three classes you listed are upper division GE classes. SOC 303 is in the "Support courses required to graduate" section of the pre-admission advising worksheet. It's in the same category as classes like "intro to psychology" and "intro to sociology", which are lower-division classes. I'm basing this all on my pre-admission advising worksheet from fall 2010, so I don't have the most recent information though.

I know SOC 303 is required for the traditional BSN (as per this link: Non-NURS Degree Requirements ). However, it's not listed on the ABSN page: http://www.csusm.edu/el/degreeprograms/absn/additionalbrnlowerdivisioncsugeandadditionalgraduationrequirements.html . Just wondering what's the story on SOC 303.

Gotcha!

Just found out that I don't have the same advisor as you (my advisor has the initials N.F.). I only had to email her once, and when I did, she answered all my questions and concerns promptly within an hour. Also, she had told me that if I don't hear anything back from the Spring cohort by September, I should contact her again and she'll give specific advice as to how to improve my chances.

If you're having doubts about your chances of being admitted, as I did, I would retake the TEAS by the end of August. You still have a long time to improve your chances and still get into Spring cohort, but I honestly think your advisor has yet to send out her batch of conditional acceptance letters. IMO, pre-nursing/RN students form the habit of being neurotic because of situations like this. Lol

Sorry I couldn't pm you due to membership restrictions.

Best of luck to you!

High five! See you in orientation! I'm happy, nervous, excited--all balled in one. I actually live in Southeast San Diego, which is 10min away from DTSD and about 45min away from San Marcos.

I got your message but I think you need to post more till you can PM? I sent you a reply, hopefully it went through. I wonder if they are going by last names for the acceptances.

@laikaluna -- I feel the same!!!! Tons of emotions!!!!

Sooo I know nothing about San Diego -- any quick tips as far as decent places to look into to live? I know theres a bunch of different counties/parts of San Diego! I dont neccessarily need/want to live IN san marcos, I would rather live closer to the beach - ha :) Depends on how much places/rooms are though!

Maybe I can email you if you dont mind? I promise I wont ask too many questions :)

Hey, Michelle!

I don't know much of the cost of housing in San Diego, but I know in general that North County area is relatively more expensive than downtown or South County area.

The closest beach to San Marcos is, I think, Carlsbad, Encinitas or Del Mar. It would take about 15-20min from the freeway to get to CSUSM. They do have nice beaches, but not much going on because they have a very suburban feel to them. I think out of the three, Carlsbad is probably the most affordable place to live.

If commuting is not an issue, La Jolla and Pacific Beach should also be considered. La Jolla has some of the best beaches in San Diego, and it's where a few of my friends like to surf. Unless you're looking to have a roommate, it's also kind of expensive to live there. Pacific Beach is probably the farthest on my list, but that's where a lot of foreigners and people from out of town like to stay. You'll have the easiest access to getting most of the things that you need as it's closest to DTSD and Mission/Fashion Valley. It's relatively cheap and fun with lots of distractions. Lol

Hope that helps!
