Hey all!

Just got my acceptance email to Sac State nursing program for Fall 2010!!!!

Who else got in! been waiting for this for foreverrrrr!

i have some A and but a lot of B. i dont know its really hard to get A in davis. i try my best in every class. and they score A+, A, A- differently, so if i get a B, the GPA would account 3.3, so.......

i heard i can retake the classes, but its not looking good right? i really dont know what should i do?

are u in undergraduate program or graduate program?

thanks for helping me!

Here is the repeat policy listed on their website:

If a prerequisite or co-requisite course has been taken more than once, the highest grade will

be included in the Nursing GPA calculation used to rank candidates. However, if a course has

been taken more than twice within a seven-year period, preceding the first day of the

Supplemental Nursing Application filing period, a five-point deduction per course will be taken

from the candidate's final score in the ranking for admission to the clinical nursing program.

Repeats will be evaluated based on content and GE Areas; not course numbers. Exceptions

may be allowed for students who completed course work as part of a previous major on a

case-by-case basis.

Sac weighs the GPA heavily, so if you don't think you'll be able to raise it quite a bit higher i would look into other nursing programs that give more points for things like work experience, volunteer work, letter of recommendations, personal statements etc. I would still recommend re-taking some of them, if you have the time and money, in order to make you more competitive for all schools. Good luck & don't give up just because your GPA isn't high, you can get in somewhere :nurse:

i agree pretty much with what cheezn4life has to say. however, i am no counselor, and would highly recommend you meeting with one from sac state.

I would take the classes over...just to be sure...i got lucky...i had no optional criteria but had a good gpa and did really well on my teas...

csus has nursing information nights, about once a month. i went to one awhile back, to see what i needed to take. the room was full of interested potential nursing students and a lot of info on their program was shared. (for example: i discovered i could take chem 309 (at arc) instead of both chem 305 & 306 -- so i did that.) according to their website, they don't really offer one-on-one counseling @ their nursing program (probably because there are so many interested people) but if you still had questions after attending one of their info nights, they'd probably see you. do bring your questions, though. i think teri tallman led the info night, and it was very valuable, imo. one thing they told us: don't just wait to get into the nursing program while doing nothing -- end up with a degree in something! use your wait time wisely. i'm now considering something in gerontology, which csus also offers.

good luck to you, whatever you do! :)

Cheezn4life,

I got your personal message but could not figure out how to message you back.

I bought the cheaper stethoscope and have had no problems with it. You have to turn the head over to switch from diaphram to bell, which for me was no big deal. On the more expensive of the two, the amount of pressure you apply determines whether you are using bell or diaphram. Seemed too tricky for me.

As far as uniforms go, in my first semester I only had clinical one day a week, so one uniform would work for that semester. However in second semester I had clinical for 12 hours two days in a row, and did not have time to wash a uniform for the next day so two uniforms were a must. If you are buying two uniforms, you should only buy two pants and two scrub tops. You will not need two lab coats. You will save on shipping if you purchase in one order.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected] and I would be happy to respond.

Hope to see you at the meet and greet on August 8.

Thanks again for all the helpful info!

It helps relieve the "newbie" stress having someone so nice as you to take the time and answer questions for us! I will make sure to take a look at the CNSA.

Yes...Mom 2-2 is awesome! :coollook:

Mommy22-

Thanks! That was I was thinking about the scrubs too. I know that this sem I probably wont need em, but i should just get an extra set cuss I'll need it in the future! Where did you do your first sem of clinicals?

& yes i'll be seeing ya at the pot luck on the 8th!

Thanks again for the advice!

Does anyone have an opinion on taking Pharmacology before or during the program?

My community college offers Pharmacology but I hear its incredibly easy and you don't learn anything. I thought that was strange considering nurses use pharm a lot, so it made me hesitant to take the class.

Would it be a mistake to take it before entering the program if I didn't learn anything? Is it difficult to take it during the program? Thanks!
