How many here has applied for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at CSULA?
I know it is a little bit early to talk about this, but I just submitted all of my grades, TEAS scores (ATI sends them to CSULA SON for you), and notification of health care work experience (dental assistant) from an employer.
It has been a long and anxious wait till April/May for letters of acceptance to come in, so I hope this thread can help everyone who is dealing with the same anxiety and stress that we are all dealing with.
So If anyone would like to share their overall "points" score, or questions regarding pre-reqs TEAS etc. I would be alright to share all of you mine, and answer some questions that I might know.
Thanks and godspeed everyone!
Transferring from LA Valley College. Not applying anywhere else out of pure hopelessness that I will get in.I spoke with a counselor from Channel Islands, she straight up told me not to even bother applying if I'm not a resident in the area OR intermediate in Spanish.
Pre-req GPA = 3.31 so 4 pts.
Cumm GPA = 3.5 so 4 pts.
TEAS = haven't taken yet.
Health-care experience = 3 pts, and verifications from 2 previous employers and a letter of recommendation from a Chem professor.
To be honest, English has always been my strongest suit in these tests so I'm not TOO worried about that, although I don't want to get arrogant.
This might sound silly, but would a CPR certification count anywhere?
make sure that the bolded will give you the appropriate points. My friend worked at a medical spa doing medical like facials and messages and works under a doctor and a PA. She even takes vital signs and makes charts for her patients (clients). she emailed CSULA's nursing dept with her job duties with signatures from the doctor and PA. They denied her employments as "healthcare experience"
So just warning you. make sure you check with the to see if your experience qualifies as healthcare experience. so if you were working in a hospital but as like a secretary, then that wouldn't count. if you were working a clinic as a receptionist, that wont count.
so i would work on getting a CNA/EMT-B or something license and find a job so you get those points for sure.
:)
My official title is medical records clerk and I work at a home health care, but what I do is keep track of nurses and constantly keep in touch with patients. Calling daily to see how they're doing, what they're comments or complaints are and if they have any questions whatsoever. I keep in touch with the pharmacies and some of the patients even after they've been discharged.
I hope that counts =/
Before that I worked at a nursing home where my title was "receptionist" but I fed, entertained, even walked and gave the medications to the patients. I left after not getting paid for 2 months and noticing shady stuff, so I can't get my employer to sign off on that =(
i know how you feel! where is your local hospital?
man that was a quick registration! i am going to start volunteering to
hey how bad are W's when they aren't in a class that has to do with the major?
the reason i ask is that the last day to drop with a W is this Monday and I want to drop German. i was so interested in taking but our teacher teaches badly and i have learned more by teaching myself then what she did. ugh! so i mean if it looks bad ill just finish the class but if its not a bad thing to have a W then I will just drop. that way i can focus on getting a job and those volunteer hours!
I don't think W's are issues in general as long as you don't have too many. Especially in a non-prereq. class.
I got a W in my Chem. 51 class like. . . 2 years ago? Due to misinformation, and nobody made a big deal out of it.
Local hospital is Saint Joseph's in Burbank. It look me 5 mins to fill out the app online.
oh nice! its online? gosh the hospitals around here you have to fill it out and then go in.
even though i live in glendora, i am going to try and see if i can volunteer at huntington hospital in pasadena. i applied to a few jobs there since my best friend and her mom works there.
you only need like 100 volunteer hours and if you can do a minimum of 4 hours a week then one semester gets you the max of 2 points on your application
i havent even applied yet. i am taking the TEAS again tomorrow morning. ugh problem is? i am so sick right now. i have been so stressed at work due to a incident plus my school work...i have such a bad cold. ugh that is why i need a new job

Good luck!!! Have you tried nursing homes? What were your weak points on the TEAS?
