CSU Los Angeles School of Nursing (CSULA Fall 2011)

Published

How many here has applied for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at CSULA?

I know it is a little bit early to talk about this, but I just submitted all of my grades, TEAS scores (ATI sends them to CSULA SON for you), and notification of health care work experience (dental assistant) from an employer.

It has been a long and anxious wait till April/May for letters of acceptance to come in, so I hope this thread can help everyone who is dealing with the same anxiety and stress that we are all dealing with.

So If anyone would like to share their overall "points" score, or questions regarding pre-reqs TEAS etc. I would be alright to share all of you mine, and answer some questions that I might know.

Thanks and godspeed everyone!

yap.. but I already wrote on it :(

sorry dude/dudet...

It's ok, can you post your paper on here. I just need the information on that paper. And thanks a lot for your quick reply.

awh, I just turned off my scanner but I will type up the info for you

for sure!

put your alias on your name tag on sept 21st!

I hope you are not my ex girlfriend! hahaha lol

but it would be ironic though

btw any transfers from CC who got accepted took NTRS 250 yet?

according to the website, it is a pre req for the fall 2011.

Because I know only MT SAC and ELAC have this equivalent course.

so I really hope it is just a co-req because it is NOT offered in the summer CSULA

if anybody could get back to me on that, that would be great!

i'm missing psy 160, and ntrs 250 too. how come on the website it said: all undergraduate nursing students must have completed the following prerequisites or their equivalents before taking their first nursing class, but the bsn undergraduate application and guidelines never mention those courses. i'm confused now.

no worries, I will talk to the dept and get it all cleared on monday :D

many people in the fall 2010 cohort (last years acceptances) still needed to take those courses, and still managed to take nursing program courses.

I know of some people who are in the program who haven't taken those courses yet!

but since we are a new cohort, I'll make sure to get that cleared for us when I hand in my acceptance slip to the dept.

I hope we don't need to take it before fall. If we do, the class will be under CSULA Extended Education (not government funded) which charges $271 per unit.

the good thing is, NTRS 250 will be an online course, so we wouldn't have to worry about the number of people taking it, or going to school for summer.

the bad news is that since it is a 4 unit course, it would cost $1084.

I don't know about you all, but that's not cheap at all!

yea, I am really honestly assuming it is a co-req because if you think about it, transfers apply to enter the same quarter they start nursing courses.

You cant expect a transfer to scramble during the summer before the nursing quarter starts to take it somewhere else.

also, how many times are you allowed to take the TEAS? I know they administer it in november, i am just wondering if say you wanted to boost up your score, if you are allowed a repeat and you just turn in the best score?

thanks!

yes, you are allowed to re take the teas up to 2 times in an application cycle. so if the TEAS is in mid NOV, you need to take the TEAS if you did bad on it no later than late DEC. (be sure if your second TEAS is higher, to email Nursing advisement both results for the record so you would have peace of mind that they have it, ATI is not very well in sending stuff to CSULA). both of my results were received successfully, but I still emailed advisement for good measure

but they only choose 1 high score for the TEAS.

take my example for consideration

1st assessment reading/English: 41/95= 5 points

2nd assessment reading/English: 78/68= 5 points

so if they take the highest score for English in the 1st assessment, they have to account the reading score on the first assessment, and if they chose the reading in the 2nd assessment, they have to account the English that was taken on the 2nd assessment.

so in my case, I was at a stale mate. but if I had a 70 or above on my English 2nd assessment, I would have 6 points, and they would take that as the better TEAS score.

So if you need to take a second try, RIO Hondo CC protors the TEAS everyday 6 days a week. you should email them for more info. here is what I have:

Subject: RE: TEAS Test Question

$30.00 (exact cash) for proctoring - pay to Rio Hondo College

$25.00 (credit card) for test - paid to ATI

$22.00 (credit card)each school / to transfer score to school - Paid to ATI

you can email this individual for more info if you would like- she works at the assessment center on this campus (RHCC)

WOW thanks for the info!

I am thinking to take it this summer for the first time and then take it when CSULA offers it. That way I can see which score is higher (unless of course, the first one is really good, then I won't take it at CSULA)

I didn't know Rio Hondo offers it. I registered at ATItesting.com and I got a paper/pencil ID, I tried looking up locations and it didn't give me anything...weird website....

I am wondering if you can just have them give your results and not have them mail it, (i dont trust places to mail stuff for me anymore, not even transcripts, i ALWAYS pick them up and mail them myself, certified mail) or can you print them online? If I take it this summer and do really well in the portions that CSULA looks at, when I apply in sept/oct 2011, I can just mail everything and that way NOTHING will be missing.

gosh its expensive to take the dang test! I saw the package of the study manual, and two online practice tests to be $85!!!! WOW

Yes I will definitely email that person to get the ball rolling, I hate applying to schools and programs with stuff "in progress" I just want to apply and have everything in and done!

I have a question about the bolded

can you explain the numbers?

they wont take the best reading from ANY test and the best english from ANY test, or do they take the most points you get from ONE test?

thanks for the info!!!
