I know it's incredibly early, there's not even a board for Fall 2015 and their applications are due in 2 months, but I can't wait.
Is there anyone else here planning on applying for the Spring 2016 program?
I'm taking Biology 223 and 251 this semester. I'm also taking my TEAS on the 17th so I have time to take it more than once if need be. I figure I'll have 31 or 32 points. Everything except Biology 224 (which I'll be taking during the fall 15 semester) and previous medical experience, since massage therapy doesn't count.
I'm just curious if any of my potential future classmates are here already, reading up on things like I am.
Hi, I just graduated from CSN's ADN program. I would HIGHLY recommend that you complete all science courses prior to entering the program. People do get accepted without them however the science foundation that those classes give you is incredibly helpful for your nursing courses. I would have been so lost without them. Not to mention, the nursing courses are very time consuming. I could not imagine taking a science class on top of nursing school and work!Good luck to you and let me know if you have any questions. I'm happy to help
Hi,
What are typical points that people get into the program? is it really hard to get in? like people have really high gpa's?
U mentioned some people get into the program without fully finishing all the science class, if that's the case, then some people even with a high gpa, their points wont even be that much, compared to someone who finish all their SCIENCE class coz, that one bio is worth 10pts!..
THANK YOU SO MUCH :)
Ok. One test down... One to go. I took my first final on Monday. It was on Pharmacology. Im not going to go into any specifics, but pharm was difficult for me. I did pass, but only by a few points. All that matters is that its done.
My Nursing 101 final is tomorrow. I have to get into the low 70s to pass with a B. Theres quite a few people that need 70s just to pass. Looking back, I studied on average about 30-40 hours a week, not including lecture, lab, and clinical times. So probably close to 50 hours per week is what I needed to pass. I was a procrastinator during biology. You can't do that here. As soon as you learn something new, add it to your study routine. Just keep reviewing the info and you'll pass the tests. And another thing, the tests are cut and dry like biology. Theres a lot of theoretical-like questions. So one answer could be 75% right, and the other answer is 60% right. Both are correct, but one is more correct than the other. It sucks. But you all will do ok.
Last piece of advice? Find a RELIABLE study partner. At least one. Im with a study group of about 5 and that seems to work really well for us. Its nice to have a few people because if we disagree on something, we can talk it out and relearn the subject in a different (easier) way.
Good luck everyone.
Oh yeah, they give you the yellow checklist at one of the orientations. KEEP THAT ON YOUR CLINICAL AND LAB BAGS. Previously stated, the three percent deductions can catch up to you FAST! I got a learning contract once, but thats it. The learning contract is a warning before you get a 3% deduction.
If you have any other questions, ask here. Ill try to answer them in the next week or two.
Thanks ViperJustin, I was just curious about the pharm test, how are they, multiple choice? I know you said 101 are more theoretical. Also you studied a LOT! Just curious if you also worked. As far as the papers, do you get a good notice before their due and why soooo many pages? lol thanks again for letting us know how you did and for the great advice.
Can't wait! I'm looking to apply at the end of 2016.
Me as well!! We could be future classmate! That is if I get in!
I'm still working on my Prereqs! I have 5 class to finish and I can finally apply for the 2017 ADN program! I am a major of different program, and so happened that I volunteer at the hospital and ever since that feeling! I cant over it! I wanted to be a nurse! So instead wasting the years I already put for my current major, I'm still finishing it, so that being said, all the remaining (5 classes I need to take for my current major, and 5 "pre-nursing classes" I'll stat doing them by 2016... I am not taking them at csn THo, but already talked to the registrar and made sure the classes I'm taking at a current school are transferrable.. (It's all accelerate courses)
If everything went well, I'll apply for 2017 fall.. which the deadline would be like late 2016...
Wish you the best! How many classss by the way are u still taking for ur "pre-nursing" classes?
I got extended track
How long will the extended track last? is it 3 yrs instead of 2? I'm thinking of doing that so I can still work as well, so I'm not juggling too much classes, but I'll see by the time I'm ready to apply.. Still taking my prereqs and wil prolly apply by late 2016 for 2017 track..
Do u have any reasons why U chose the extended track?
Hi potential classmate! I am taking 224, 251, and an online class this semester, knocked out my TEAS last semester, and I do not have any previous medical working experience, but I am currently med tech certified. The most ideal situation for me is to be accepted for the Fall 2015, but knowing that the core sciences are at least 15 extra points, I doubt I'll be accepted without them. Best of luck to you this year!
Hi! you mentioned that you are an online student for those classes! Are u taking those 224,251 at csn or at a different school? I am thinking of doing online classss for bio so i can save up while still working. and If ever I get into the program, I can only work like 2x a week...
please let me know!
All tests are multiple choice with a math problem thrown in (usually just one). I did not work, but I have two kids that I watch when my wife works. I find it nearly impossible to study with them. I spend a LOT of time at the library studying.
You get at least 3-4 weeks notice with your papers. They aren't too difficult, just time consuming. There are guides for those papers, and you just answer the questions on those guides. Also, there are tables and charts that you'll add from your clinical worksheets. Those take up a few pages here and there.

Thanks! Maybe we get it at our second orientation because I know that wasn't in our first packet.
