CSN RN Spring 2013

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and I was wondering if there are any fellow CSN RN Spring '13 hopefuls out there. I just turned in my application today and I would love to get to know some of my potential classmates through this forum :)

Ok i guess i missed it...what exactly is the Nurs 285 class...the description in my csn isnt very in depth...i actually need to find some other classes because i need to have 12 units so i can be considered full tome so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

The nursing program is considered FT. What do you need it for? You can get a letter from registration, I believe, that states it is considered FT. the class load is so intense that I wouldn't suggest other classes.

And the toolbox class teaches you the math we use and how to write care plans. very helpful, IMO!

I am using the pell grant and a loan to pay for my tuition and i know you have to be considered full time for the loan but if the school considers the program full time i shouldnt have any issues...i hope

I can't pick-up my packet until about 4:30 because of work. We will all need to get together at orientation for sure! Does anyone know how long it is?

They said the two orientation dates are an all day event. She told me they run from 8 till 3 most likely.... I am planning on going to get my packet first thing so I can go on with our Halloween plans with the kids. :)

I'll probably pick up my packet first thing at 1230 since I'm off from school and work. I told my work that I got accepted and they were happy for me but at the same time sad cause I won't be able to work as much.

On another note, is anyone NOT going to take the Nurs 285 class? I feel pretty comfortable with med dosing since I'm a Pharm. Tech but with care plans not so much. I'm might just end up taking it anyways.

Care plans are taught/learned all throughout the semester. In my opinion, the class isn't that important to take if you have the math skills already. You practice the nursing care plans in clinical... You will be fine even if you don't take the class.

Are you using the federal loans? If so you shouldn't have a problem. I use both pell grants and federal loans as well and have had no problems!

And yeah, the first orientation lasts all day, 8-3ish. There will be someone selling stethoscopes and supplies, as well as food and t-shirts from the NSNA (cash/check only) so come prepared! the 2nd orientation is about half a day, 8-11/12. The NSNA will also have food/t-shirts at that one as well!

I will be there at 12:30on Wednesday! I actually have class at 12:30 but I will have to just get in late because I have work right afterwards.

Hey I'm a pharm tech too!! But I work retail so med dosing is not usually very complicated and I haven't done anything for IV since I studied for my national exam 5 years ago. Plus I'm really bad in math so I could use all the help I can get so I'll be taking the toolbox class :D

Maybe I'll see you on Wednesday :)

What the heck do you have to do to qualify for pell grants? I have applied for the FAFSA every year since I've been in college (9 years part time) and I have never qualified for anything. I pay own tuition, books etc and I live paycheck to paycheck. Maybe there are some kind of special nursing grants?? I don't know...at least CSN is relatively cheap compared to UNLV/NSC....

I had kids O_o I never qualified before kids even though we never made much money (hubby was an E-4 in the Army and I went to school FT). I only ever got help after I went back to school once my youngest was old enough! I still did not work, and he made a little more, but we had 2 dependents, so it's helped out! of course I'm not saying run out and have a kid though!

I just signed up for the 8am Nurs 285 class. BRIGHT AND EARLY. The class is only 90 dollars which isn't bad if it is something that is necessary. I'm debating on whether or not I should wait to get packet and go to first orientation to decide if I should take this class....
