CRNE February 2010

World Canada CRNE

Published

Hello! anybody out there?!! :coollook:

I just received my confirmation to write the crne this February. I am now in desperation to get a review materials to study on. I am still in the process of acquiring the crne prep guide as this was what most of those taking the October 2009 CRNE but one thread says the shipping cost is far way too expensive. huhu

BUt however, the exam cost is to much to fail the test... so can anybody out there give tips? advises and how was it like? what to concentrate more?

Hi yahy,

I am in the same position as you are. I too was working as a new grad during the summer, but that had to end abruptly. No matter what we still have to remain positive and motivated to study harder. It appears that other people's posts have been really helpful and supportive. I just want to comment on that. Thanks.

P.s. I think I will have to get the Lippincott's prep guide. I had the Mosby's one and also I did take a prep course, but it did not help me succeed. So, this time I will be taking a different one in Hamilton from the college. Does anyone else have any suggestions on who to take the prep courses from?

Thanks

Goodluck to everyone writing in Feb. 2010!

HI,

I'm also in the same boat. I recieved the paper regarding the prep course in hamilton. BUt I will be taking another course for about a month. If you need anymore info pm me...

I'm new to this site. DO you have a msn? I just want to know if you can give me advice. Thank you in advance.

I do have msn...

Hi

I passed the last CRNE exam and here are my tips: You need to get all your calculations questions right. There will be about 6 or 7 questions in every CRNE exam. Then know all your lab values, i.e. arterial blood gases, urea and electrolytes values. Because all these questions related to ABG means you can be certain to get them right. There will be many psycho social questions. These ones you wont be sure of the answers. You will need to do the CN prep guide and see the answers and study the rationales behind each answer.

Practice as many questions as you can and you will see a pattern emerging re: psycho social questions. I used the Mosby and Lippincotts and then the review guide book. I started my review 2-3 months before the exam. I was reviewing about 3-4 hours daily on my days off. I was trained in the UK.

One of my colleagues who passed said: COMMON SENSE is the key for the exam. Another one studied only 2 days before the exam and he passed it. Thats what he told me and I believe him as he wont lie to me.

thanks ibby13.... I will surely try and do this....

i'll be writting the CRNE this February 2010. this will be my third attempt to pass. i am educated here in Canada and no matter how confident I was I still did not manage to pass. nothing I could think of right now, i have been crying and thinking alot about it. some of my friends did only studied for a week and passed and I just dont seem to understand what is wrong with me. maybe nursing is not really the right career for me. sometimes i just think of going back to school and pursue another career, but I have my student loan to pay for, and other debts. I studied the CNA readiness online, CNA prep and LIppincott's but still. I did better the second attempt but not enough score to pass. My family migrated here in Canada 7 years ago and I tried very hard just to get accepted in school. all I wanted is to succeed in order to help out my family, and I thought after Nursing school everything is going to be alright. The CRNE is draining every confidence that I have. I could not think of anything but question myself why, why , and why. I am so depress and I don't know what to do. I would be VERY GRATEFUL if anyone of you who is reading this right now can give me some useful/ helpful hints and strategies. I really need some help! Please and thaank you in advance.

P.S. I can't PM anyone as I am new to this site. I have come to figure out how to check my messages by clicking on to the user control panel. Kindly help me with some tips please.

Hi Yahy

Dont be discouraged and think positive. You can pass the exam and now that you have done it twice so you are more aware of what to expect.

I learned something from the authors of the Lippincott book. They mentioned that we nurses are afraid of the CRNE. The reason is cos we dont do those questions on a regular basis that why we are afraid of the exam. The more we practise the questions the more we become confident. So keep practising those questions daily until the eve of the exam. Thats the reason I used CRNE prep guide, Lippincott and Mosby. Be careful not to memorise them cos I have not seen any questions repeated in the Oct exam from the current CRNE prep guide and the Learning module that you can purchase online from CNA.

Keep doing about 100 questions or more in a go and then check your answers.

Put those post it notes on the walls of your house so you keep looking at the lab values and hopefully they will stick in your memory for years.

You will pass it next February. Keep saying to yourself: I will pass my exam.

Bye

thank you so much for the encouragement

Hi Nice earyen. I remember someone told me before to let not any standardized test define our capabilities as individuals. I have been working in the hospital as a graduate nurse and a lot of nurses gave me positive feedbacks eversince I started working with them. However, failing the CRNE twice is hard on me. I thought I have been a great nurse... but now, I don't even know what to do... I don't even know how to start anew.

I am not sure it is the content/competencies of the exam that is making things unsuccessful for you. I remember nursing instructors discussing that reading into the question is a source of a lot of wrong answers since there are usually 2 answers to choose from with one being "the better" choice but not always clear to the person taking the exam. Since you have used a lot of the resources recommended in the past you may want to focus on test taking strategies more than anything else. That is what one RN told me recently how he prepared for the US exam. Because you never know the questions that can be asked test taking strategies may help push you over into success. One excellent resource in the US that also focuses on test taking strategies is a guide put out by Kaplan. But maybe even try to find a test taking strategy course may be helpful. May just be all you need. I have the Lippincott book for the CRNE that also has a chapter that discusses test taking skills. I never used it and was successful. I feel kind of guilty admitting this to those unsuccessful who seemed to put in much more effort into studying than I did. I did take the CRNE this past October 2009 but did purchase the CRNE prep guide, Mosby's and Lippincott's but only ended up using the CRNE prep guide in the end. You can PM me if you wish.

Yahi did you read the other CRNE threads? There are lots of tips in those other threads; I know because I wrote a lot of them. Try reading through the other threads.

Hey! Anybody there wanting to share review materials/books for the CRNE '09 examination? I need help... ASAP please!

Thank you

I just wanted to say good luck to everyone who's writing it next week! I write mine in June, but I have a lot of classmates who graduated four months early and are writing it next week.

Best of luck, everyone! Stay positive.
