CRNE February 2010

World Canada CRNE

Published

Hello! anybody out there?!! :coollook:

I just received my confirmation to write the crne this February. I am now in desperation to get a review materials to study on. I am still in the process of acquiring the crne prep guide as this was what most of those taking the October 2009 CRNE but one thread says the shipping cost is far way too expensive. huhu

BUt however, the exam cost is to much to fail the test... so can anybody out there give tips? advises and how was it like? what to concentrate more?

kay_84 why don't you put your MSN handle in your personal info then create a signature that says, "Let's chat on MSN. See my profile for my handle." That way you won't have to post the same thing on every thread on Canadian nursing and people who are interested in contacting you that way can do so. You've made five posts today in four threads asking people to chat with you on MSN, so this would be much easier.

If you aren't sure how to do that, scroll up to the top of the screen. Click on "My Account" then click on "User Control Panel". Click on the "Edit Your Details" section, scroll to the 'Instant Messaging" section and type your handle in the appropriate box. After that scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Save Changes". Next, go back to "User Control Panel" and click on "Edit Options" in the Settings box. Scroll down to "Visible Post Elements" and make sure the box that says "Show Signatures" is checked. Once again, click on "Save Changes". Go back once more to the "User Control Panel" and in the "Settings" box, click on "Edit Signature". Type in whatever you wnat your signature to say and when you're happy with it, click on "Save Changes" and you're done. Your request for MSN chat will be attached to every post you make in the future and appended to all the posts you've already made.

HI janfrn,

Thank you for your help but I wasn't able to complete it. I was able to do everything up to the last part about the signature. I don't have that option in my setting

Hi guys. A British friend gave me her CRNE Prep Guide Book. She mentioned it came with a CD but she left it back in England when she took the exam here. I'm just wondering if you have a friend here in Canada who can lend you their CD that came with the book. That way, shipping will be cheaper. I'm not sure though if the content of the CD is exactly the same as the content of the book. Anyone there got an idea?

My bad. You have to be a Premium member to be able to use signatures. But you could create a signature file using Word and then cut and paste into your posts.

I'm new to this site. DO you have a msn? I just want to know if you can give me advice. Thank you in advance.

Hi Kay_84...I am also new to this site and don't have the option to PM...Please let me know how to contact you...I would like to give some feedback on the things I did to make sure I was successful on the exam this time around. I received my result today and I passed...It's a blessing but I also did everything I could possibly think of to make sure that happened.

Hang in there and do not be discouraged.

Good luck to all writing in Feb. If any of you are in the UK and a member of the RCN they have the Canadian Prep guides to borrow (I did that for Oct exam) I also bought Lippincott's CRNE Prep Guide from Amazon and that was really helpful, covered lots of areas and the CD - ROM has a separate section on all the calculations/meds; drips ect which really helped me.

For those who are rewriting don't get discouraged - you'll know what to expect next time and be better prepared. Hold thumbs for all of you.

Hi soetpeel, good to see someone who actually used the Lippincott's book: I did it and just passed. I won't say the questions were exactly the same (CRNE is a lot more difficult) but after the CNA guide Lippincott has my vote for "questions/content that rings a bell". Besides, it has plenty of questions and the content is tipically Canadian.

The Mosby book kind of disappointed me: good book to take with you on a clinical maybe, but the questions were more NCLEX-type.

Another book that helped me a lot (and I hope to keep and cherish for a long time) is the Silvestri NCLEX prep review. Excellent to review "hard nursing knowledge" and very intuitive; I also found it was easier to read than Mosby and the content organization was excellent. Not exactly Canadian stuff though so it needs to be "used carefully" i.e. they don't use the metric system. I also did most of the questions in the Silvestri CD: many of them seemed more CRNE-like/psychosocially oriented than those in Mosby. This is just my opinion.

Another material that I haven't seen widely discussed in the forum but was very useful to me are the learning modules in the CNO website. The most important points of the Compendium are discussed there. They also offer a few questions (very easy though :D). Here is the link:

i'll be writting the CRNE this February 2010. this will be my third attempt to pass. i am educated here in Canada and no matter how confident I was I still did not manage to pass. nothing I could think of right now, i have been crying and thinking alot about it. some of my friends did only studied for a week and passed and I just dont seem to understand what is wrong with me. maybe nursing is not really the right career for me. sometimes i just think of going back to school and pursue another career, but I have my student loan to pay for, and other debts. I studied the CNA readiness online, CNA prep and LIppincott's but still. I did better the second attempt but not enough score to pass. My family migrated here in Canada 7 years ago and I tried very hard just to get accepted in school. all I wanted is to succeed in order to help out my family, and I thought after Nursing school everything is going to be alright. The CRNE is draining every confidence that I have. I could not think of anything but question myself why, why , and why. I am so depress and I don't know what to do. I would be VERY GRATEFUL if anyone of you who is reading this right now can give me some useful/ helpful hints and strategies. I really need some help! Please and thaank you in advance.

P.S. I can't PM anyone as I am new to this site. I have come to figure out how to check my messages by clicking on to the user control panel. Kindly help me with some tips please.

HI yahy!... I will be sitting the Feb 2010 crne. Its my frist time... reading your lines, it scares me more... but, In order to pursue our dreams is we really need to work harder.... I'm used to NCLEX questions and now I'm versing myself on CRNE questions.... You really need to have background concepts to better understand whats being ask.... have you done a lot of question drills?

For me encountering a lot of questions is my best strategy in taking the exam. and if there are concepts that is some kinda new.... I really have to open nursing books and read thru....

Goodluck to all of us!..

Hi Nice earyen. I remember someone told me before to let not any standardized test define our capabilities as individuals. I have been working in the hospital as a graduate nurse and a lot of nurses gave me positive feedbacks eversince I started working with them. However, failing the CRNE twice is hard on me. I thought I have been a great nurse... but now, I don't even know what to do... I don't even know how to start anew.

Hi yahy,

I am in the same position as you are. I too was working as a new grad during the summer, but that had to end abruptly. No matter what we still have to remain positive and motivated to study harder. It appears that other people's posts have been really helpful and supportive. I just want to comment on that. Thanks.

P.s. I think I will have to get the Lippincott's prep guide. I had the Mosby's one and also I did take a prep course, but it did not help me succeed. So, this time I will be taking a different one in Hamilton from the college. Does anyone else have any suggestions on who to take the prep courses from?

Thanks

Goodluck to everyone writing in Feb. 2010!
