CRNE Feb 2011

Published

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site. And I am gonna take CRNE FEB 2011 and very nervous. Can anyone guide me what books do I need to study for this exam. I would also appreciate if there is any sugestions for review centre in vacouver or surrey because i live in b.c.

Thanks in advance.

The greater portion of the waiting time is over. There results will be out any time soon - may be next week. The Feb 2 exam was my last having been unsuccessful on the two previous attempts. I am waiting anxiously for what the outcome would be. I hope it goes well this time around. BUT if not, what is the consequence? Does anybody know the answer to that question?

Everyone knows the answer to your question. Three fails and you are finished. You need to contact your uni to find out about remedial education.

You would also need to decide if you really want to be a nurse and consider if you are in fact safe to practice.

Ok I have never used this before but had to sign up just to reply to fiona's reply, which is completely rude in my opinion.

Yes you fail three times and you are a little screwed. But fiona I am assuming you do not know who the bisp is just as I do not know who you are so I could be taking your response the wrong way. However to say that the bisp needs to reconsider on being a nurse is a load of crap and that he or she is basically not going to give safe practice because of this REDICULOUS exam. Do you know how many nurses I know that have passed that should not have? For example not knowing what hypertension meant or thinking heparin's main use was to control blood pressure. So because they have passed means they will now perform safe practice??? No. So the next time people assume that people who can not pass the exam are incapable of being a nurse or incapable of performing safe practice just remember there are many nurses out there who have no idea what the hell they are doing, and possibly passed because they are good at taking multiple choice exams.

And the bisp, I wish you the best of luck. And if you are unsuccessful that does not mean you are not a great nurse or never will be one, don't give up, ever.

And this is not a personal attack just a frustration I have with the licensing system, so take it how you want to.

I completely agree with tiffany. That was very rude of fiona. There are lots of nurses out there that passed the exams but do not have any clinical skill or practical knowledge.

Cant wait for the results. Hopefully we all pass and bisp it is well. God is in control :)

Considering that you haven't actually started practicing yet as a full-fledged nurse, I think it's unfair of you, and also a little rude to speculate on other nurses. Certainly, the exam is not exactly an accurate representation of much. Also, yes, there are good, bad, and mediocre in every profession too. However, the CRNE attempts to test your thinking patterns and decision making skills. That's really all it is.

More importantly, I can say this to all of you: until you actually start working on your own, you won't realize how much is actually required. I have only been working a few months, and everyone said this to me too. And I didn't really understand what they meant until I was on my own. You will see.

Thanks tiffanyt for your reply and encouragement. I totally agreed on what you said. Exam should not be the best way to determine competency or intelligence. I failed the two previous CRNE not because I am a dummy but because I do not like multiple questions. I usually do better with short answer type of questions. Trained under British educational system in one of the English-speaking African countries, we are not used to multiple-like questions but instead assay-type. CNA should reconsider the all-multiple questions mode because not everyone likes that.

Failing CRNE has nothing to do with safe practice because there is link between passing CRNE and safe practice. As a matter of fact, I have practicing as a graduate since graduating close to a year now. I have never had any issue with safety and no complaint has been brought against me. Many of the senior nursing colleagues had commended my nursing practice.

Anyway, I have my fingers crossed, praying that God will help me pass so as to continue the good nursing I have been practicing close to a year. I wish all that wrote the exam well.

Hi Fiona59,

Thanks for responding to my concerns around CRNE. However, I will so much appreciate it if you can help me understand the relationship between passing CRNE and safe practice. In as much as the CRNE must be passed, but concluding that success at CRNE automatically translates to safe practice on a clinical setting may be dangerous to say the least. I strongly believe that passing exams and actual practice are two different things. There are many variables to failing or passing exams.

Well one reason is that the exam tests basic competencies and nursing knowledge that you are supposed to have. Even if you aren't great with multiple choice, you practice them and pass. If you understand the basic nursing principles required to practice, then they shouldn't be able to stump you. So that's the link between the exam and safe practice, in a nutshell.

I bet results will come out by 14-18th of march.. Just a speculation... Hmmmmm. Waiting time sucks!

Yes, its absolutely possible to apply for the CRNE while you are in the Philippines. And why do you need a recruitment agency? It don't make sense at all. CRNE is a licensure exam, no need for an agency. Search for threads on how to apply for CRNE. I'm pretty sure you'll find a lot of them.

As has been stated a number of times before, there is no such thing as an application for the CRNE for IENs. Only students graduating from Canadian university/college nursing programs apply to write the CRNE - as part of their application for registration in the province where they were educated. What this means for you is that you must apply for REGISTRATION with a college of registered nurses somewhere in Canada and once you've been determined to be eligible for REGISTRATION you will be given authorization to write the CRNE as part of the REGISTRATION process. Given that there is a significant number of newly graduated Canadian-born-and-educated RNs who have not been able to find employment, I would believe that the likelihood of an IEN with no experience obtaining employment in Canada will be extremely small. You will need to weigh the pros and cons of spending untold thousands of dollars on assessments and examinations on a gamble for employment that isn't likely to be there for you. The unfortunate reality is that most of North America is struggling with shortages of nurses and even worse shortages of cash flow to allow those vacancies to be filled. An employer is going to choose someone local over someone from another country everytime simply based on economics.
