I'm so curious to know how CRNA's live. By the hectic schedule I've been told about how do find time to go out and spend your money, like buy a big beautiful house, decorate it, buy clothes, and so on. What kind of cars do you drive getting a fat check like that.

Depends on what area you want to work, much like anything else.

Being a Yoga advocate, I recommend having balance in your life. It is important for everyone, but especially for those of us who do (or are studying) anesthesia.

I work hard, enjoy my social life, and hug my grandaughters a lot. Get balance and learn to set priorities.

i know a few crna's and they live their lives like anyone else. how you spend your money is an individual choice no matter what you do for a living. your profession and income may influence your lifestyle, but just because you make a good income does not mean that you need to be flashy. people have other priorities that take precedence over a "big" house or expensive car. i for one could care less about the next mercedes benz or bmw and the only way i will own one is if someone bought it for me. i make enough money as a RN to have plenty but i care about other things like my family and saving for the future. not to say that i don't like nice things but no one will ever know my true income by my material posessions alone.

I want to become a CRNA and I'm exciting to know what another person has I may have going to school.My family is very poor and I will be the first to go to college and become a CRNA so I wanted to get an idea of how I can give my family the best in the future. I'm 21 and not sorry that isnt mature enough for you:stone

Congrats on going to college and hopefully becoming a CRNA. However, I'll stand by my previous post that your question, at least the way it is phrased

"What kind of cars do you drive getting a fat check like that"

is somewhat immature. If money is your sole motivation, then that could be a problem. You say you will be the first to go to college in your family. Great. Just remember you have a long way to go to already be thinking about the money side of it. You haven't even started school yet and you're thinking $$$.

I will add a word of support to what JWK writes. The money that CRNA's make can be very attractive. The "fat paycheck" you refer to attracts many people to consider becoming CRNA's. However, it isn't enough to get you there.

First, you had better be willing to work your butt off, starting right now, to be sure you get the kinds of grades in undergraduate studies that will even put you into competition for a CRNA program. "C=RN" will not get you there. Most programs do not accept students with GPA's below 3.0, and to become competitive, you probably really need a 3.4 - 3.5 GPA.

Then you have the year of learning in the ICU. Then the CRNA program, which will be the hardest, most demanding thing you have ever done. The motivation for the paycheck isn't enough to get you through it.

I don't discourage anyone from trying to become a CRNA. But if money is the only reason, you won't make it. Might I suggest you look a little closer at the field.

I just realized an error I made. I am in college already, I am the first in my generation to go and just because I made a statement about money does not mean that is my "sole motivation",I just said I am curious. It is to become successful in life in whatever field of study I plan to pursue, continue to care for my family and have one of my own. I agree that if people are in it for the money they wont be happy, I've experienced that myself already so you are late professor.I have a great paying job now that I am satisfied with . Money isn't everything but it sure as he** is alot of things.

Good luck Andrea. I think what the posters are inferring is that it takes great effort, time and energy in order to complete school to BE a CRNA. Good luck on your goals!
