Critical care internship...

Published

Hey,

Just want some opinions here: If a hospital offers 12 weeks (classroom didactic + clinical preceptorship) + 3 months floor 1/1 preceptorship. Would that be considered a good ICU program for a new grad? if anyone lives in the Miami area or not I'm talking about the Jackson Memorial hospital critical care internship...

Thanks for any opinions regarding this matter...

Sounds good to me. Similar to what I went through up here in NY with a hospital in Long Island. I don't think you can get a better preparation than that. Good Luck.

wow - I had to fight for 5 weeks.... and then second week off my orientation I am stuck with doing a Swan-Ganz by myself (never did one in orientation)...

Can you say "ummmm... liscense protection?????" Their response - too bad/ suck it up princess... Uh huh... gotta love Texas

MAKE SURE you get trained properly

Where did you guys find out about hospitals that offer such training programs. I live in Orange County NY, I guess I could live in Long Island for a while. I was hoping to find a program around here or in upstate NY (around Albany) since hospitals around here don't seem to hire new grads for ICU. What's the name of that Long Island hospital?

LadyT618, where on Long Island? I used to live on Long Island before I moved to Florida and once I finish with nursing school, I'm looking to relocate back up there.

Okay, I just caught this after I sent a reply to your earlier post. I used to work at NSUH Manhasset before as a medical secretary. Great hospital.

sounds like a good deal to me. i've been a nurse 10 yrs, mostly med/surg, just transferred to the IMCU, stepdown unit...I got 1 day with a imcu nurse...that was it. and now they want me to precept new grads? not a problem on med surg floor, but I don't have a background in imcu, i don't even have all of my imcu orientation stuff done!
