19 Credit Hours in my First Semester of NS

And the thing is...I have no choice if I want to keep my seat in the Accelerated Program.

I have to take basic CHEM, an ENGL (kind of an advanced APA Comp) and a diversity course COMM315 (I can take this online in a 7 week offering).

And then, for NURS classes: Foundations (Fundamentals), Nutrition, Med Term (1 credit crash), Lifespan Growth and Dev and a NURS Lab.

On the plus side...I am still unemployed, I have great study habits, I am focussed, and my wife and children love me.

I can't help getting a bit nervous though...

Encourage me or tell me I am insane.

Also, tell me if you think it might be worthwhile to take the COMM class in seat given that online classes are often intense out of all proportion...

For my biology degree, i had to take 17 hours to graduate with my class. 2 of them had labs in it so thats an extra 4 hours, but they don't count it.

I had terrible study habits. I would study 2 days before exams, I would do the lab paper work the day they are due. (wake up at 5am)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, If a guy like me can do it..

Then theres no doubt in my mind that a collected, focus guy like yourself wouldnt be able to :)

Good Luck.

probably more to do with being unemployed than focus or being collected...lol

But thanks for the encouragement and it's good to see that it can be done...

My feeling (simplistic as it is...) is that if you want it bad enough, you'll find a way to make it work.

Your schedule sounds challenging, but I suspect you'll not only succeed, but you'll excel as well.

Continued luck and success to you!

My first semester was 18 hours (all nursing classes). This summer I'm taking 17. It's definitely doable. The key is to stay on top of things and don't fall behind.

19 hours is do-able if you are VERY responsible. I just hope you can cut back a bit in second semester ... that, for me, is usually when the real burn-out sets in.

Any chance you can get rid of those gen ed requirements in a summer or january term?

You can do anything if you put your mind to it and work hard.

Nobody said becoming a nurse was going to be easy. Good luck with school. :D

Thanks to everyone.

No, I cannot really cut back on the Gen Eds. I can drop back to the traditional track and take another year + to graduate but I would rather not. So, it's not entirely accurate to say I don't have a choice, but it's a choice I'd really like to avoid making.

I am meeting with my advisor today to get the FinAid figured out. If it can't be done without a ridiculous burden I may have to.
