If a patient comes in to the ER and CPR is started before we
notice the DNR bracelet, can a nurse stop the CPR or does she have to
continue until a doctor arrives and gives the order to stop or ????
Thanks for feedback

I would say that if only cpr was in progress then it should be stopped, no harm done, however if patient is intubated. then i would get a doctors order and then someone would have to d/w family.

In Illinois, in the pre-hospital environment, we can stop CPR and all other efforts after talking with the MD via phone. We do not start efforts if there is an injury incompatible with life. In the ER, we start CPR unless we can quickly find out the code status. If the patient is DNR, we always try to find out ahead of time.
